Fashion Week Review: Geren Ford

Geren Ford has always been a strong favorite of mine and she strongly delivered with a FANTASTIC collection for fall 2009. The theme seemed to be edgy, upscale street-chic with styles that looked haphazardly thrown together but in that super fabulous, super effortless sort of way. The looks varied from sleek and structured to loose and billowy and each piece was super versatile with lots of dress-it-up or dress-it-down potential. My absolute favorite look was the billowy printed minidress topped off with a grey cardigan, it was just so casual and fuss-free but still had a bit of an edge, which I am always a fan of.

Fashion Week Sneak Peek: Rebecca Taylor

New York Fashion Week is a mere few days away and the excitement over what designers have in store for Fall 2009 is mounting by the second. Rebecca Taylor’s signature romantic, ultra-femme aesthetic has made her a favorite among celebrities and regular fashion-loving gals alike. While last season she was inspired by the global traveler, this time around she drew upon imagery from Northern European fairy-tales.

The color palette is described as ‘intense with pastel shades of field flowers and the Scandinavian sea; contrasted with deep hues of violet, beetroot and pomegranate.’ Ethereal styles are a Rebecca Taylor signature and this season she created feminine languid tops and playful dresses inspired by 1940’s bias cuts embellished with metals and crafted with layers of airy chiffon. The looks will be styled with chunky Lucite jewelry to add some edginess to the delicate fabrics and romantic silhouettes.

I for one can’t WAIT to see these looks come to life on the runway!

Runway Review: Tracy Reese

No matter what the season or economic condition, Tracy Reese always delivers collections filled with fun, vibrant collections that serve as a reminder of how fun fashion can truly be. For Spring 2010, the designer was inspired by french painter Pierre Bonnard and used optimistic shades of orange, yellow, and bright blue. There were also lots of pretty prints thrown into the mix ranging from bold, vivid shapes to soft florals. A sweetly slouchy golden yellow dress opened the show and there were tons of other standouts along the way.

Backstage Beauty: Brian Reyes

Inspired by Brian Reyes’ refined spring 2010 collection, Tresemme hairstylist Martin Christopher Harper, makeup artist Bobbi Brown, and Dashing Diva’s Pattie Yankee came together to create a look that would compliment the collection’s cool color palette. The hair was pulled into a texture pony-tail while the makeup was kept soft with the perfect pop of color.

Backstage Beauty: Charlotte Ronson

For her Spring 2010 collection, Charlotte Ronson was inspired by the ballerinas of New York, specifically the way they look when leaving dance class and mix their dance attire with their regular clothes.

To enhance this motif, hair stylist Allen Ruiz from Avon and makeup artist Charlotte Willard for Maybelline created just-walked-out-of-dance-class looks that were fresh and natural-looking. The hair was pulled back into chic, slightly undone buns and the makeup was kept soft, sheer and translucent.

I got the chance to hang out backstage before the show to talk to the stylists and watch the looks come to life.

Read on to replicate the hair and makeup looks.
