Fashion Week Survival Guide: Essential Do’s and Don’ts

Nothing can compare to my first Fashion Week. I was so new and so green and so clueless as to what to expect. It only took a few more go-rounds for me to become a seasoned practitioner, to know exactly what to do and how to act to make each season a little less brutal. Yes, I said brutal, because Fashion Week, while very exciting and sorta glamorous, can be brutal (unless you’re a major editor of a major magazine, anyway). The egos, the cattiness, the hierarchy, the stress, the chaos, it can all take a hefty toll if you don’t go in prepared.

Whether you’re new to the game, still having trouble making it through this arduous week unscathed, or hoping to find yourself in the mix at some point, I have all the tips you need to make it through triumphant. [Click to continue reading…]

Shop the Looks at Style.com: From the Runway to your Closet

Style.com is without a doubt the ultimate online go-to guide for all things fashion related. They are known for their up-to-the-minute Fashion Week coverage and with their new Shop The Looks e-commerce initiative, you will not only have the chance to discover the current and upcoming trends, you can shop for them as well!

Each runway slide is tagged to correspond with one of the trends available in the Shop The Looks section (metallic, boho, goth, floral, etc. etc) . So let’s say you’re browsing through runway images and fall in love with a particular style, print, silhouette, theme, and so on (which happens to me quite often), well just click on the “Shop the Look” link and you will be taken to a page where you can browse through dozens of available styles that fit that particular trend.

Style.com has always been the first stop for fashionable consumers when planning their purchases. Shop the Looks now gives them immediate shopping gratification,” said Rachel Wintner, Associate Publisher of Style.com. “The editors of Style.com have vetted all looks, which provides a customized, well- edited shopping experience for the user. It also creates a unique opportunity for advertisers to reach that user.”

Shop The Looks can be accessed through any runway image on Style.com or from the Trends + Shopping section of the site: style.com/shop.

Use this new feature to shop for current trends or to get ahead of the curve by shopping for next seasons key styles. Either way, a more fabulous and fashionable you awaits!

Fashion Week Trend: Glamour-Goth

We saw lots of interesting trends for Fall 2009 during this past Fashion Week- some old (velvet, florals, neon color, sequins) some new (the 80′s, voluminous shoulders, endless mixing and matching of prints and textures) and some that were both old and new, like the return of goth. Black is always a dominant shade during the fall shows but this season, it was kicked up a notch and taken to seriously sexy territories with a prevailing gothic reference point interpreted in a way that was super sexy, not scary.

More on the fabulous goth-styles after the jump!

Fashion Week Review: Rachel Roy

Rachel Roy is known for her chic, minimal aesthetic and knack for effortless glamour. For fall 2009, the designer presented a stunning collection that was incredibly sexy as well as sophisticated, polished, and sleek. The presentation was arranged by color scheme with monochromatic looks in black, ivory, ice blue, soft yellow, and gray and each look radiated confidence, power, and seductive sex appeal. I personally could not tear my eyes away from this one long black cut-out dress, insanely sexy, but still incredibly sophisticated. This collection also re-examined the virtue of the bustier with a pale yellow bustier dress and bustier tops shown with super short shorts and cropped pants. The accessories such as chunky mirrored necklaces and large cuffs by Subversive Jewelry’s Justin Giunta were also to-die-for and added to the collection’s theme which centered around strength and elegance.
