Celeb Style Inspiration: Whitney Port

From cute and casual to sexy and standout, Whitney Port’s personal style has undergone quite the makeover since we first met her on The Hills in 2006 as Lauren’s soft-spoken but super supportive Teen Vogue sidekick. Back then, Whitney’s style was very California-casual, ultra-femme, and very sweet.

In the time since, Whitney has grown up, toughened up, and abandoned sunny CA. for the harsher NYC. As she evolved, so did her sense of style. These days, Whitney likes to keep it edgy, bold, and sexy, but in that accidental I-didn’t-even-try sort of way.

Whitney loves to mix-and-match, from contrasting prints to disproportionate silhouettes to soft and feminine pieces teamed with high-voltage sexy ones.

No matter what she wears, she exudes confidence through and through and absolutely owns it. Both her attitude and absolute panache make this girl well worth drawing inspiration from.

Trend to Rediscover: Clogs!

A few months ago, I started a post about clogs but faced some serious hesitation as to whether or not to actually run it. I really should have taken my own advice, but instead I allowed the fear that all of you would think I had lost my mind for endorsing such a silly style take over and I held off. Then Mr. Karl Lagerfeld had to go and show clogs during the Chanel Spring 2010 presentation and now this silly little style is gaining crazy momentum and is being hailed as the hottest spring trend.

As much as I worship Karl, I didn’t need his seal of approval because I honestly love clogs and could not be happier that they are making a comeback (even though I’d wear them even if they maintained their passe status!). Clogs are a great substitute for flip-flops in the fall and winter and can serve as your slip it on and wear-then-with-anything-go-tos. Rock your clogs with bare feet when it’s warm and with tights or funky socks when it’s cold.

If you share my sentiments and can’t wait to clomp around in a pair of clogs, then read on for the styles I’m currently crushing on! [Continue reading...]

Style Muse: Noot Seear

Canadian-born model turned vamptress Noot Seear is flashing bright on our radar with her Kate Moss-meets-Erin Wasson sense of style. Trading in her signature strut for a Hollywood script, Noot can be seen in the upcoming vampire flick New Moon in November alongside Twilight heartthrobs Rob Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. She’s not one to be in the tabloids and followed by paps (yet!) but with big screen exposure and her noteworthy signature style, we’re pretty positive that her star will continue to rise.

Noot’s closet is overflowing with rock and roll goodies such as flannels in every color, a rad vest collection, tapered leather pants, denim cutoffs, an assortment of vintage rock tees, and distressed leather bombers. Shoes are as follows: Chucks, dirty biker boots, vintage Chanel knee-highs, fringed ankle boots, two-tone creepers, and Canadian-inspired moccasins.

To add elements of Noot Seear’s look into your own wardrobe, take a peek at our top five style tips. [Continue reading...]

The New-Again Fashion Game

Let me introduce you to one of the most fashionable girls I know.

Her name is Michelle Joni, and not only does she love turning fashion New-Again (see her vintage storyboard above), she loves turning her life into a game. (Enter The NYC Game to learn more!)

Michelle has dedicated a little piece of her Game to A New Mode, with the New-Again Fashion Game.

In the most recent “round” of her game, Buffalo Exchange was featured as the BEST thrift shop in New York City (they have locations all over the country, too).

Read on to learn how to play and what you’ll win!

Celeb Style Inspiration: Lauren Conrad

As much as I hate to admit it, Lauren Conrad is a consistent course of fashion inspiration for me.  She always manages to be on-trend without being hyper-trendy, bold but still polished, and sexy, but still sophisticated. And no matter what, she always looks effortlessly put together.

Lauren’s style is rooted in a feminine and flirty sensibility with a bit of an edge. She definitely loves floaty dresses and bold prints, but always maintains a balance with her ensembles, never going too far with a motif. A sharp blazer to toughen up a flirty frock, a Chanel bag to add some high-fashion to a downtown-hipster look, subtle accessories to keep from overpowering a strong outfit- when it comes to chic minimalism, this girl is the master.

One thing I especially admire about Lauren is that she knows exactly what works for her and always stays true to herself with her choices. Her clothes always fit perfectly, the shades always compliment her complexion, and she never  looks like she’s trying to be anything. Lauren has donned tons of amazing ensembles recently, but I narrowed in my four favorites for this edition of celeb style inspiration.

Splurge-Worthy: Designer Shoes

With the onset of the current economy, it is more important than ever to be a smart shopper. And in my opinion, it doesn’t necessarily mean giving up on the luxuries you enjoy- especially SHOES! Instead, put more thought in to what you are handing over the credit card for rather than impulse shopping as so many of us are guilty of. Invest in one pair of killer shoes per season to infuse life to your recession wardrobe- they are the best way to update any look. This includes classic flats, sky-high platforms and ladylike heels.

One more important thing- to increase the lifespan of your shoes, make sure to keep them stored in a box when not in use and carry them in shoe bags rather than throwing them in your bag.

Check out my top picks for the smart, shoe-loving shoppers after the jump! [Continue reading...]
