Small Steps For a More Gorgeous YOU post image

Small Steps For a More Gorgeous YOU

We’ve all heard the same old song and dance about how beauty takes work and of course that famous little rhyme- ‘no pain no gain.’ Okay in some regards this is correct, like waxing for instance. In other areas, however, you don’t need to kill yourself or break the bank to look amazing. Looking great doesn’t only come down to what you wear or the products you use, it’s also about your attitude and the way you treat yourself.

Read on for 4 life-changing perils of advice guaranteed to deliver a more beautiful, confident, radiant YOU.

1) Eat Your Raw Veggies
Your mom was onto something when she told you to eat your veggies, the importance of raw greens in your diet is IMMENSE, a fun little fact that we all know but tend to ignore. You can get your green fix by eating the veggies raw or by loading bunch of greens into a shake or smoothie, which is my preferred method. All you need to do is throw a bunch of raw greens (celery, cucumbers, parsley, spinach, etc) into a blender or juicer and drink up for a mega-dose of nutrients. To make it go down easier, I sometimes add lemon or apples. The living enzymes in raw greens assist the body processes like digestion, detoxification, and rebuilding.

Once I started ‘juicing,’ my problematic skin suddenly cleared up and looked more radiant than ever. And this wasn’t a fluke. Since greens assist in the body’s energy-consuming digestive process, the body has extra energy for other tasks, like repairing and rebuilding the skin! Oh and one more major perk- by filling your body with the nutrients it needs, you’ll notice a major decrease in cravings for the bad stuff like fried food and sugar and hence, the loss of a few pounds without even trying!

Healthy-You Tip: If you’re reducing your intake of red meat, you may want to add an iron supplement. Iron helps oxygenate every cell in the body, and is a vital component in everything from energy levels to complexion.

2) Yoga
Anxiety used to ooze form every fiber of my being. My brow was perpetually furrowed, my lips constantly pursed, and a blanket of worry had me tightly swaddled. I still deal with my share of stress but I do it with a lot more ease now that I have re-introduced yoga to my daily routine. In addition to the natural calm yoga induces, which many of us can benefit from; it enormously improves posture and muscle tone and will give you that delicate ballerina-like gracefulness. And, there really is no excuse not to do it. If you don’t want to pay for classes, you can get them on demand through Comcast or Time Warner. Don’t have cable? Well then you can download courses on the Internet. In addition, Yoga Studios such as YogaWorks have amazing, recession-friendly deals and offerings to entice for first-timers, so there’s no excuse to get your zen on!

3) Stop Stressing About Your Weight!!!!!
I’m gonna give you another little tale about my life. I was once a perpetual dieter, I mean ALWAYS on a diet and ALWAYS wanting to lose at least 5 more pounds. Eventually I hit the point where I no longer had the strength or energy to care, when I was hungry I ate when I wasn’t I didn’t. I never had cravings because I knew if I wanted something I could have it. Within a few months I had somehow dropped a significant amount of weight and the best part is I never put it back on. Sure I have my weeks where I’m a human garbage disposal gorging on everything in sight, but I don’t beat myself up over it and know that it will all balance out.

You might be rolling your eyes at me right now, but I implore you to at least make an effort with this tip and when that snarky little voice starts harping in your ear about how much weight you have to lose, I hope you will tell her to shove it! Putting an end to the great weight debate will also lead to more self-confidence. Think about it- when you’re always worried about your weight, you’re vibrating with insecurity and people can feel that vibration. However, when you stop caring and just live your life, you have a much more laid-back vibration that people will always be attracted to.

4) Good Posture
The way you carry yourself is everything in this world. When you’re slumped over or hunched it conveys that you’re insecure, tired, or just plain grouchy and who wants to be around that? Attitude is a huge component in attractive-ness and your stance and posture send strong subliminal messages to everyone you meet. From now on, start paying attention to how you carry yourself- whenever you catch yourself hunching over, straighten up, put those shoulders back and blaze a trail of confidence with every step you take. Mark my word, a change of posture will lead to a big change in how people respond to you!

You are so right about stressing about what you eat. It’s all about healthy portions… not calorie counting!

I agree, I am not sure that the combination will taste good, but I am always willing to try new things! The posture is what I need to work on after sitting at a computer all day. I heard sitting on a balance ball helps improve your posture. Not sure if it works or not. Thank you for a very informative post that makes us feel better with simple tips.

Hmm… just made it minus the lemon (thought I had one and didn’t… oops!). Not bad, but not as easy to drink as a fruit smoothie. Will have to double check next time that I definitely have all the ingredients!

Thank you again for the tip!

Well I actually use a juicer, but a blender is actually the better choice because you can strip away a lot of fiber with a juicer. I actually have a really amazing recipe that’s blender-friendly that I got from Envision Beauty Founder Kimberly Snyder (her blog is kimberlysnyder.net). Anyway, here it is:

* 1 1/2 cup of water
* 1 head of organic romaine lettuce, chopped
* 3-4 stalks of organic celery
* 2 organic apples, cored and chopped
* 1 organic banana
* 1/3 bunch of organic cilantro
* 1/3 bunch of organic parsley
* Juice of ½ fresh organic lemon

Hope this helps!

Wow that smoothie does not sound delicious but I’m gonna take your word for it and give it a try! What kind of blender do you have? Weird question I know–I just don’t think mine would chop it up enough to get it down to a puree. I am a big fan of fruit smoothies so I think I”ll just add some of those ingredients for a nice blend I can swallow :)

I always do a blend of Celery, Parsley, Cucumbers, Spinach, and a Lemon (I just throw them all into a juicer, it’s super easy). It might sound a little gross but it really isn’t, especially when you consider how amazing it is for your body. If you want to sweeten it up a bit, I would suggest throwing in an apple- it definitely helps the whole mix go down a bit smoother.

Hope this helps!

I get a lot of my daily fruit through smoothies, but have shied away from the greens… do you have an optimal blend you suggest?
