As soon as the cold hits, I immediately reach for my cozy accessories (I have a whole drawer full!). In addition to providing added warmth, these key pieces can also up the chic-quotient of even the simplest styles. Shade To Crave: Citrus Orange post image

Shade To Crave: Citrus Orange

From summer through fall, bold, vibrant, optimistic shades are all the rage. The one that is really starting to grow on me is orange- which can serve as an fun, and slightly edgy, alternative to powerhouse pink.

I used to hesitate when it came to orange for fear that I would look like a pumpkin. However, with more experimentation, and the right pieces, I totally warmed up to all forms of this citrus shade and learned that when done right, it can be a serious statement maker.

Blaze a trail in an electrifying neon shade- which conveys an unmatched sort of confidence. Rock a bold orange dress at a black tie affair to really stand out from the crowd- like Ashley Olsen who wore a striking vintage gown to this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards. Try a softer shade, like Vanessa Hudens who wore a Max Azria gown to the Kid’s Choice Awards, which allows for piled on accessories. I especially love the rich orange shade of the Bottega Veneta dress worn by Ginnifer Goodwin, which is fashion-forward but still classic and sophisticated.

You can keep it color-specific with a single orange piece, or merge in some other neon colors for a free-spirited sixties-feel. The most important thing to remember is to select a shade that makes you feel as good as you look!

A Worthy Investment: Edgy Jewelry post image

I am a huge accessories fiend, an obsession that has piqued recently on account of a resolution to stop making unnecessary purchases and work with what I already have. Accessories are a fantastic way to spice up even the most basic pieces and can help you create the exact vibe you’re going for- edgy, boho, preppy, no matter what look you crave, there’s an accessory to help you get there.

The edgy/femme contrast was a huge trend for spring as seen on the runways of Louis Vuitton, Thakoon, Matthew Williamson, Julie Haus, and more. I love mixing edgy pieces into my daily looks, even the most seemingly quiet and subdued, to achieve this look- it really is amazing to consider the significant impact something as simple as a leather cuff or a rock-inspired cocktail ring can yield on an outfit. With a major glamour goth trend on the horizon for Fall 2009, I think it’s definitely time to start investing in some edgy pieces.

A well-cut trench will never be outdated and is a wardrobe staple for current trend-setters such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Victoria Beckham, to name a few, and was one for fashion icons of the past like Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn.

If you’re a celeb, you can afford a classic Burberry trench (all the ladies above are wearing styles from the iconic fashion house), but don’t despair if you don’t have that much cash lying around because there are tons of fantastic trench styles out there at all price points!

When buying a trench, look got a style that allows for layering underneath so you can get mileage out of this item in the winter months, but still sleek and fitted so it doesn’t add bulk to your figure.

Spring Must-Have: Lightweight Scarves post image

I firmly abide by the mantra ‘you’re never fully dressed without a lightweight scarf to complete your look’- a smile is always nice too. Lightweight scarves are an obvious year-round staple and are such great ways to instantly spruce up your look. With the recession and money-woes running rampant, fabulous items you can get maximum use out of are key.

A lightweight scarf is a great alternative to a basic cardigan for spring- it’s portable and so much more versatile. Drape a scarf around your neck to spruce up a basic jeans-and-tee look, loop it through your handbag for a unique touch, wrap it around your head for a funky boho look, tie it around your waist to wear it as a belt, you get the idea!
