Backstage Beauty: Rosa Cha

Inspired by the colors of Rosa Cha’s Spring 2010 collection, hairstylist Edward Tricomi and MAC makeup artist Philippe Chancel created a very fresh and feminine look for the runway. From bright colored bandeaus to an iridescent glow, the two pros shared with me how to recreate this summery look.

Read on for a step by step guides to get the hair and makeup looks.

HAIR
As the collection was developing, it began to develop into an iconic look, with a little bit of a 40s flavor to it which from there Tricomi says they saw that as if it was growing up into itself and then decided to make loose chignons. With a “dash of voila,” they came up with the idea to put fabric around the head to give it a 40s pinup girl look. With a little Warren-Tricomi Style Flexible Hairspray ($20) and a rubber band this look can easily be created on your own. First, make more of a chignon rather than a donut, then smush it out a little so it’s not like a little roll, take any fabric you can find at home, start from the back and move forward. Tie the first round, tie the second round, one goes down, one goes up and in the words of Tricomi, “voila,” you’ve got yourself a vintage-esqe ‘do.

MAKEUP

Face: Chancel created a very minimal yet beautiful face by using Studio Sculpt Foundation ($29.50) and Sculpting Powder, along with Studio Select Concealer ($16.50), creating a fresh, sheer look.

Cheeks: Mineralize Skinfinish Powder in Blonde ($27), a pink shade, was used for the cheeks to give it a nice iridescent touch. The Sculpting Powder was also used on the eyebrows to give a very structured look to the girl.
Eye: The actual color on the eyes was inspired by the colors in the Rosa Cha collection. Excited to see color again, Chancel first used the Chartreuse Paint Stick on the eye as a base to start and then put MAC’s Pigment ($19.50) in Golden Lemon and Melon over it on the eyelid and a little bit underneath to give it a nice shine. To top it off he used Sculpting Powder in the crease, the Eye Kohl Pencil ($14.50) in Fascinating to take away any pinkness around the eye, and a lot of black mascara on both the upper and lower lashes to give it a sexier look.
Lip: To finish up this polished look, Lipgelee ($14) in Slick Pink, more of a coral-like gloss was put on the lips to bring together the very fresh, very summery, and very wearable look.
