Oscar Beauty: Get the Hottest Celebrity Hair and Makeup Looks

The 2014 Academy Awards may be over, but the dazzling beauty looks we saw on the red carpet will live on and continue to serve as inspiration, be it for a hot date, a night out, or just for fun.

When you have an exact step-by-step breakdown from the hair and makeup professionals behind the looks, as well as the exact products used, it actually isn’t all that hard to re-create a look.

Below are some of my favorite hair and makeup looks from the ceremony and steps on how to re-create the looks.

AMY ADAMS’ MAKEUP

Celebrity makeup artist Stephen Sollitto created a sophisticated makeup look for best actress nominee Amy Adams. He stated, “She wore a stunning sapphire blue Gucci gown, modern and clean. Obviously, I am inspired by this color and simply wanted the makeup to be just as sophisticated.”

Skin: Sollitto prepared Adams’ skin using RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream ($195). He stated, “I always moisturize with this product. This is the line I use on myself every day. Prepping the skin is just as important as the makeup you use.”

Face: He  applied Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide (NEW  – coming Fall 2014) to create a flawless complexion.  He noted, “This foundation is simple to apply with a wet sponge or your fingers. It’s long wear, oil free and lightweight. In the end it gives you a matte finish so you don’t have to dust your face with loose powder, it’s built in.”

Eyes: Sollitto applied Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Terracotta ($24) to Adams’ lids and contrasted the look by applying Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Black Karat ($24) under the star’s bottom lashes. To keep Adam’s eyes looking ”bright,” Sollitto dotted Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Sugar Frost ($26), his “ideal champagne shade,” to the inner corners of Adams’ eyes.

He applied Nars Eye Paint Liner in Tatar ($25) along the star’s upper lash line to make them “pop.”  To finish, he applied Dior Black Out Mascara ($25) to Adams’ lashes.

Cheeks: Sollitto applied the perfect “spring-like blush,” Tom Ford Beauty Cheek Color in Ravish ($56) to create a look “that was flush with color.”

Lips: Sollitto noted that he wanted to achieve a lip look that was “pretty, a little bit rosy and glossy.” He used Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Cozy ($25) which he described as “having the perfect punch I was looking for.” He then layered Tom Ford Beauty Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Rose Crush ($45) over it “for a bit of glamour to match the day.

KERRY WASHINGTON’S MAKEUP
Kerry Washington

Makeup Artist Carola Gonzalez breaks down how she created Kerry’s bold and beautiful look:

Prep: To prep Kerry’s skin I always use Neutrogena Shine Control Primer ($13.99) on her face and Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm  ($8.99) on her lips for hydration before lipstick application. It really helps to keep lips moisturized and diminish appearance of dryness on lips. Leave for at least 20 min before lipstick application.

Skin: For flawless glowing skin, I applied foundation all over Kerry’s face to even it out of any imperfections.

Cheeks: I highlighted her cheekbones with Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends in Sunkissed ($12). This added radiance and the perfect shade of color to Kerry’s cheekbones for this specific look.

Brows: I brushed Kerry’s eyebrows and filled them in with brow powder. I didn’t want her eyebrows to be very dark so I went with a shade a bit lighter than her own.

Eyes: I used Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Stay-Put Plum ($8.99) all over Kerry’s eyelids and blended on crease. I only used one shade to keep eyes to a bare minimum. No need for dramatic eyes today, it wasn’t part of the look I was going for. However, I did use Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Liner in Cosmic Black ($7.99) to line the upper lash line, right where the lashes connect with the skin, and diffused it with a brush to soften the liner. I then applied 5 coats on top lashes with Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara in Carbon Black ($7.99) to add lots and lots of volume, and two coats on the lower lashes. Top Lashes, to me, are the most important and the ones that make the eyes stand out the most. I really like this mascara because it adds the right amount of volume and you can build lash without clumps.

Lips: Dark lipstick topped with Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Rich Raisin ($8.99) to add a bit of sheen.

JESSICA BIEL’S HAIR
Jessica Biel

L’Oreal Paris Consulting Celebrity Hairstylist Mara Roszak styled Jessica’s gorgeous locks for the event. “Jessica wore a beautiful, metallic Chanel dress that was very clean and gorgeous,” she explains. “I wanted her hair to have that same elegant, polished feel with a nod to old-Hollywood glam.”

Here is her step-by-step guide for re-creating the look:

Step 1: To start, when her hair was still damp, I applied L’Oreal Paris Oleo Therapy Perfecting Oil Essence ($12.99) from the middle to end of her hair. This helps smooth the hair to make it silky and shiny.

Step 2: I then sprayed the L’Oreal Paris Boost It High Lift Creation Spray ($4.99) at the roots. Even though we were going for a smooth and sleek look, I still wanted her to have a little volume at the roots.

Step 3: I then made a deep side part and blow dried her hair with a boar bristle brush.

Step 4: Once hair was blow dried straight and smooth, I used a 1 ½ curling iron and just curled the ends of hair to give it a bit of bend.

Step 5: Once I was done curling the hair, I sprayed the L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek It Strand-Smoother Serum Spray ($4.99) all over. This helped give the hair an ultra-sleek look, while adding a touch of shine.

Step 6: Even though the rain had stopped, I finished with the L’Oreal Paris Lock It Weather Control Hairspray ($4.99) to lock in the style and make sure Jessica would not have to worry about anything all night.

JENNIFER GARNER’s MAKEUP & HAIR
Jennifer Garner

Makeup artist Fiona Stiles created this soft and radiant look. She explains, “We were inspired by Jennifer’s silver Oscar de la Renta beaded column gown which had a modern flapper feel.  For easy glamour to compliment Jennifer’s hair, which was polished but not fussy, we wanted to keep her cosmetic look really modern for a universal feel from head to toe.  I also wanted to play off of her dusty rose burgundy nails for inspiration.”

Face: For a glowing and radiant glow, she prepped the skin with Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer  ($11.99) followed by Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Makeup in Natural Ivory ($15.99) and Neutrogena Shine Control Powder ($12.99).  For a concealer she used Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 25 in Buff ($13.99).

Cheeks: Stiles added a bit of color with Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Blends in Pure ($12) and highlighted with Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Blends in Clean.

Eyes: Stiles kept Jen’s eyes very neutral on the lid but with a rich brown underneath for a contemporary feel.  On the lid she mixed  Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Constant Copper ($8.99)  with Lasting Taupe.  On the lower lash line, she used  Spiced Chocolate and on the top lid Cosmic Black from the Nourishing Eye Liners ($7.99).  She used coats of mascara (Neutrogena Healthy Lengths Mascara in Carbon Black, $8.99) mixing the lengthening and volumizing formulas.

Lips: For lips she went with a modern lip – a darker take on Jen’s natural lip color with a Rosy Berry look created by applying the Bright Berry and layering the Rich Raisin on top to mute the final lip look, both MoistureSmooth Color Sticks ($8.99).

HAIR:
Hairstylist Adir Abergel created soft loose romantic waves accented by a side-swept bang to contrast the structured silhouette of her silver tiered fringe dress from Oscar de la Renta.

Step-by-step:

1. Prep the hair with Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray ($28) from roots to mid-lengths
2. Apply Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse ($35), focusing on the roots, and create a deep side part before rough-drying the hair.
3. Use a small round brush on fringe to direct the hair to one side, creating softness around the face
4. Finish the look by misting sections of hair with hair spray and curling with a 1-inch curling iron to create soft waves

HEIDI KLUM’S HAIR
Heidi Klum

Hairstylist Eric Gabriel created a chic, textured messy bun to complement the beautiful Versace gown she wore at Elton John’s Oscar party. “I was really inspired by Heidi’s gown for this look,” Eric Said. “The combination of black leather, metal, and sheer fabric is really sexy, elegant, chic, and rock ‘n’ roll

Get the Look:
1. Spray hair from roots to ends with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($42)
2. Twist Large Sections of Hair in different directions and gather in the back of the head in a low ponytail. Twist lengths of ponytail into a messy bun and pin into place.
