With a pop of spring color on the lips and a clean French twist, Andy & Debb’s spring 2010 show didn’t disappoint. As I spent time backstage, I became inspired by the almost duel personality given to each girl. The look described a daring sophisticate.
I spoke with hair stylist Danilo, makeup artist James Kaliardos, and Dashing Diva’s Pattie Yankee, to discuss how they created the looks for this show.
Here’s what they had to say:
HAIR
“The designers straight up wanted a very finished silhouette. Since there are circles in the collection, they wanted to mimic that in the finish, so we finished the twist in a bit of a circle,” said Danilo as he described the inspiration behind the hairstyle for the show. Saying that a french twist has never really gone out of style, Danilo does mention this generation is more familiar with this style from seeing it at weddings as in the 60s, that’s all you ever did. As he travels the world though, he is seeing the sophisticated twist more and more, with “girls doing it up,” which he calls “great.”
As I mingled backstage, the fog of hairspray was so thick, (the models were even waving their hands as they walked through the clouds of spray) that it became clear this was a must-have when building this ‘do. Each stylist was using different products, but one of the stylists was using a favorite of mine, Bumble and Bumble Spray de Mode ($25). With flexible hold and outstanding memory, this product will definitely do the trick!
MAKEUP
When it comes to spotting beauty trends that we have seen this season, Andy & Debb was no exception. At the spring 2010 show, we spotted three major ones so far! Strong eyebrows, check. A strong lip, check. A young, fresh face, check.
Inspired by the colors of the collection, Kaliardos described the look as fun, quirky, and wearable. With the main focus on the lip, the face was kept fresh, the eyebrows were penciled in to give them a strong look, a little bit of copper graced the eyelid, and the fuchsia lip popped. Looks are becoming more and more daring these days and we say go for it. Spring will be here before you know it and it’ll be time to make that bright statement. To help you out a bit, we’ve picked a color reminiscent of the runway look. Try out YSL’s Rouge Pur Lipstick ($30) in Fuchsia Pink and make that pout pop!
NAILS:
Along with the designers, Yankee decided to go with a color that would match the clothing line. They decided on Dashing Diva’s “Boarding School,” ($8) a creamy taupe color to compliment the collection. Clearly, a very wearable color, to create the same shine that graced the nails of the models on the runway, simply apply two coats of the neutral shade.
