To create the hair and makeup looks for the Jenni Kayne Spring 2010 presentation, Sara Lucero for Stila teamed up with Hairstylist Ted Gibson (both representing beauty.com) and his crew to create the ultimate downtown meets uptown aesthetic. Ted created a loose, undone sort of ponytail while Sara created a smoldering colored smokey eye that radiated sensuality and sex appeal. The whole idea was to keep it cool, glam, and effortless.
I got the chance to chat with the hair and makeup teams backstage before the show. Read on to find out exactly how to recreate the hair and makeup looks!
Hair
To create the look at home, work Ted Gibson’s Tame It Shine Lotion ($19.95) into hair to add texture, part hair on one side, and tie it into a loose ponytail. Don’t slick back the front though. The goal is to have the hair sport a “shorter look to it but still maintain a ponytail…because every girl wears a ponytail” as Ted Gibson explains. Finish off your mane with Beautiful Hold Hairspray ($19.95) for all day control without the stiff helmet head.
Makeup
To get the Jenni Kayne “Navy Out All Night” face, start with Stila’s Natural Finish Oil-Free Makeup ($38) to even out the skin followed by the Perfecting Concealer ($23) and Pressed Powder ($28) for a matte effect.
Produce a colored smoky eye using the varying shades of navy from the Eye Palette ($40) and then lining the top and bottom of the eye with Stila’s Kajal Eye Liner in Sapphire ($18). Lightly smudgy the line and then brush Indigo Eye Shadow (a shade from the palette) on top of the liner for an all day matte effect. The key of the look is intensity and sexiness, not getting it perfect. Don’t worry about skin peeking through. It’s all a part of the overall slept-in appeal. With such a dramatic eye, keep lips and cheeks subtle with just a hint of pale color. Stila recommends using Stila Sun ($28) to contour the cheeks and applying Long Wear Lip Color ($17) in a nude shade for a kissable pout. Voila!
