Celeb Style Inspiration: Ashlee Simpson

If I had to pick one celebrity whose style most resembles my taste and fashion sensibility, I would have to go with Ashlee Simpson, hands down.

Just like Nicole Richie, Ashlee has transformed herself from fashion victim to fashion maven and now has a signature style that is entirely her own and always on point.

Ashlee’s style can best be described as boho-rock. She incorporates elements of both in almost every outfit she sports- be it for running errands or hitting the red carpet- rarely sticking to a single motif. For Ashlee, a boho-maxi calls for some punk-rock accessories, a billowy peasant top will be offset with skinny jeans and converse kicks, and anything flirty or feminine will be toughened up with heavy chains and edgy shoes. No matter what, her style always has that thrown-together effortlessness to it which isn’t easy to pull off.

Ashlee always injects a bit of herself into every look, even when she’s experimenting with trends and styles that are a bit outside of her fashion comfort-zone, and this approach to fashion is definitely one to draw inspiration from.

For a night out in L.A., Ashlee demonstrated how to update basic pieces, adding a rocker sensibility to her basic white tee and black Ksubi skinny jeans with a heavy multi-chain Lanvin necklace and a slouchy Balenciaga bag. I really loved this look because it illustrates how much of an impact a standout piece or two can yield and how radically it can transform what was once a basic outfit.

For a day of shopping, Ashlee kept it casual with an undeniable rocker-chic sensibility. Here, Ashlee added her own unique touch to a basic pair of Ksubi skinny jeans and a gray tank from American Apparel, accessorizing with a pair of distressed slouchy boots, her trusted Balenciaga bag, sunglasses, an oversized House of Harlow ring, and a dainty necklace. The reason this look caught my eye was because it just speaks cool like no other and has that ultra-elusive thrown-together vibe that always conveys a sort of fashion-savvy.

LOOK 3:
At the DJ Hero videogame launch event, Ashlee was definitely more glamour-goth than boho-rock, and looked as amazing as ever. She offset the sexiness of her sequined hot-pants with a simple black tank and sharp blazer and enhanced her amazing legs with a pair of Yves Saint Laurent platform pumps. She limited the accessories to a simple rosary beaded necklace which perfectly completed this goth motif.

Look 4:
For the TCA CW summer press tour , Ashlee got in on the ubiquitous romper trend, wearing a gorgeous bright blue style from Cynthia Vincent. She injected her rocker-spirit into the look with some fantastic edgy accessories including dominatrix-like Balenciaga sandals, a mixed-chain necklace, and a black cocktail ring, creating the perfect balance of naughty and nice.
