Introducing Cheek’d: A New Way to Meet Your Mate

Have you ever spotted someone, felt that undeniable attraction, and then panicked at the prospect of approaching them and striking up a conversation? Of course you have, we’ve all been there. Approaching a member of the opposite sex is terrifying no matter what your gender. If you chicken out and let that person slip away you can either draft up a Missed Connection post for Craigslist and hope for the best or let thoughts of what might have been run rampant, neither of which is an ideal scenerio.

A few weeks ago a friend of mine introduced me to Cheek’d, an innovative new offline/online dating concept that makes it a little easier to connect with the given object of your affection.

Here’s how it works: Users buy a deck of 52 cards with clever, provoking phrases on them such as “Our fate is in your hands,” “I’m cooler than your ex,” “You’ve got something I like” and so on. The cards have a unique ID number on them that is linked to the user’s online Cheek’d profile. The recipient can then log on to cheekd.com, enter the user’s ID number, view their profile and discreetly contact them via the Cheek’d emailing system (at no charge). A deck of 50 cards and a one month subscription is $25 and each additional month after that is $9.95.

I have my deck, but in all honesty, I’ve been too chicken to give it a try. This is where you come in. On this site, Eric and I are usually the ones dishing out the advice but this time, we wanna hear from you! Do you think I should give this a try? What do you think of Cheek’d? Would you be totally freaked if a guy gave you a Cheek’d card at a bar? Would you have the guts to give a card to someone else?

Sounds kind of gross to me. If you have the confidence to hand someone a card to contact you, why not just hand him your number written on piece of paper? Or an email address if you’re paranoid about giving your number out. I’m curious to know what guys think of it but I would imagine a guy would figure that woman is doing that with every guy… since she’s gone through the trouble of having that card specifically printed out. Writing your number on a piece of paper and handing it to a guy is way more sexy and intriguing, and he’s not necessarily going to assume you do that all the time with every guy you see.

Necessary for the younger generation who failed to develop social skills. Overpriced. Yuck.

If a guy had the chance to simply ask for my number, talk to me etc. and instead gave me this card, I would be a little creeped out. Here’s what I would figure, this guy has 250 cards, he’s out there handing them off like fliers. I know online men have more options than that but the point is they are online, they are just options to meet in public. When you take online options into real life then I think it’s a little in excesss and I would be turned off by the fact that I have a card and have to pursue the guy when he had the chance to do that on the spot. So you say it’s in passing, well that’s creepy too. Taking the online strategy for offline is tacky. Online is get offline, not to do the reverse to meet and get back online. What is this dating world coming to…lol???

I would be creeped out by this. It does not seem very personal or polite.

I just ordered a deck and wished I’d had them in my bag when I was in the subway this morning! I saw the hottest guy on the planet. Patiently waiting for my package. : )

The concept is cool, but waaaay overpriced. I already KNOW I’m not gonna go through 50 cards in one month, and I don’t think I’d be dedicated enough to spend another 10 every month after that. And isn’t there another product like this called Flipme?

you could just buy a deck of cards at the store for a buck, and put your facebook on the back. same senario less stress on the wallet.

I don’t think handing someone a card is any less awkward than striking up a conversation; but giving the card to a third party isn’t a bad idea. And it would be a cute way to meet a work crush if you work for a large company – just leave it on their desk!

Would totally try this… I was at a crowded bar and couldnt get to this guy… I could have just given one of these cards to the bartender that way if the guy was a creaper he would have my number!
