Eating for Beauty post image

Eating for Beauty

It’s not just about the clothes you wear or the beauty products you use, true beauty truly comes from within and it’s what you put into, not onto, your body that can have the greatest impact on how you look and feel. Due to the incredible response it received in a previous post, I’ve decided to revisit the topic of eating for beauty.

I have to give a lot of the credit for my newfound healthy lifestyle to Envision Beauty founder Kimberly Snyder, who has helped me enormously with her infinite wisdom regarding health and nutrition. Since I started eating better, I have noticed a dramatic difference in the way I look and feel- my nails are longer and stronger, my hair is shinier, my complexion is clear, I rarely feel bloated, and I’ve noticed a huge increase in my energy and concentration levels!

Sure, there are professional detoxification services, but you don’t need to do a major diet overhaul to get these results.  Just take small strides by adding some healthier treats to your diet and trust me, you too will enjoy these fantastic results.

Read on for recommendations from Kimberly on foods to eat for a more beautiful you! [continue reading…]

Get Luscious, Luminous Locks With Redken Chemistry post image

Ladies near and far know that when it comes to hair, luscious, healthy, and luminous is in. Drab, lifeless, and flat, not so much. Given this standard, you can only image how pleasantly surprised I was by the discovery of a new treatment that restores hair to its former glory, undoing the effects of color treatment, blow-dryers, flat irons, curling irons, and all the other tools we use in an attempt to get the mane we crave. Now grab a pen and write this down. The system is called Redken Chemistry and it’s so amazing that I’ve already gotten done 3 times in less than a year.

Before I go on, I want to say that this is not an advertisement. Redken is not paying me to write this – I am sharing this with you guys because I truly believe in this amazing system.

Details after the jump.

Backstage Beauty: Charlotte Ronson post image

For her Spring 2010 collection, Charlotte Ronson was inspired by the ballerinas of New York, specifically the way they look when leaving dance class and mix their dance attire with their regular clothes.

To enhance this motif, hair stylist Allen Ruiz from Avon and makeup artist Charlotte Willard for Maybelline created just-walked-out-of-dance-class looks that were fresh and natural-looking. The hair was pulled back into chic, slightly undone buns and the makeup was kept soft, sheer and translucent.

I got the chance to hang out backstage before the show to talk to the stylists and watch the looks come to life.

Backstage Beauty: Andy & Debb

With a pop of spring color on the lips and a clean French twist, Andy & Debb’s spring 2010 show didn’t disappoint. As I spent time backstage, I became inspired by the almost duel personality given to each girl. The look described a daring sophisticate.

I spoke with hair stylist Danilo, makeup artist James Kaliardos, and Dashing Diva’s Pattie Yankee, to discuss how they created the looks for this show.

Backstage Beauty: Julie Haus post image

Backstage Beauty: Julie Haus

From skin care to nails, backstage for the Spring 2010 Julie Haus, which was sponsored by Beauty.com, was all about grunge, rocker-chic. In one corner, hairstylist Oscar Blandi was creating a tousled, slept-in look while celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann was applying a smudged finish to the gunmetal shimmer. On the other side, Stila makeup artist Sarah Lucero was focusing on creating a messy yet pretty eye, and Bethany Wojtech for Arcona was going over how the all natural skin care line is perfect for the models’ skin during fashion week as they go from show to show (something that I had always wondered!).

As I spoke with all four of them the message became clear. If it was up to them, every night would be a party. And who wouldn’t love that! Here’s what they had to say. [continue reading…]

Backstage Beauty: Vena Cava post image

Backstage Beauty: Vena Cava

Vena Cava’s spring 2010 show brought together MAC makeup artist Lloyd Simmonds and Beauty.com hairstylist Ted Gibson, where together they created a sophisticated yet updated look to compliment the collection nicely. With the use of black visors and dark sunglasses, Gibson stayed away from an “uptight ballerina ponytail” and went for a textured one instead, showing off the girl’s “duel personalities,” while Simmonds created a violet lip (can we mention he made the shade himself!) for a graphic feel to balance out the look.

With both artists calling these looks completely wearable, here’s a step by step guide on how to recreate both the hair and makeup looks from the show. [continue reading…]

Backstage Beauty: Jenni Kayne post image

Backstage Beauty: Jenni Kayne

To create the hair and makeup looks for the Jenni Kayne Spring 2010 presentation, Sara Lucero for Stila teamed up with Hairstylist Ted Gibson (both representing beauty.com) and his crew to create the ultimate downtown meets uptown aesthetic. Ted created a loose, undone sort of ponytail while Sara created a smoldering colored smokey eye that radiated sensuality and sex appeal. The whole idea was to keep it cool, glam, and effortless.

I got the chance to chat with the hair and makeup teams backstage before the show. Read on to find out exactly how to recreate the hair and makeup looks! [continue reading…]
