Best Unisex Beauty Products to Share With Your Guy

Moving in with your significant other is one of the most exciting moments in your growing relationship.  Not only do you now get to spend every moment together, but you have that awesome feeling of knowing you’re both extremely committed to one another.

While all of this excitement totally rocks and you’re happy as a clam, there comes that moment when you realize that the bathroom just isn’t big enough for the two of you.  This isn’t always the case, but more often than not couples share a space that isn’t as roomy as you’d like and trying to incorporate your stuff into your already extensive beauty collection can be a little bit of a test.

One way to ease this problem?  Invest in some unisex products to save space and cut down on clutter.  Here are 5 awesome products and you and your guy will both love.

1.  Shampoo/Conditioner
It’s not just the counter space – it’s the shower, too.  My bf and I have the tiniest shower on the planet so we’ve had to condense our usual collection of shampoos and conditioners, which means having to find one that will fit both of our scent and styling needs.

I recently switched us over to Kevin Murphy products and both of us are hooked.  They smell great, they do wonders for your hair, and they’re made out of natural ingredients and renewable and sustainable resources.  The best part is that since they are so concentrated, you don’t need a lot – just a pea-sized ball will give you plenty of suds to wash medium-long hair.  The the products will last you months if you don’t overuse it.

2.  Shower Gel
Since we’re on shower supplies, body wash is another unisex product you can both use to help you better utilize your space.  This can be a tough one to find, mainly because most men’s shower gels are overly musky and women’s can be incredibly sweet and floral.

The key here is find either something basic and neutral or pick a scent that is fun and you both really like.  We both just happen to love the smell of cinnamon buns so this has held a spot in our shower caddy pretty frequently.  The best part is that he doesn’t have to worry about smelling too heavily of cinnamon buns because by the time he uses his deodorant and cologne there’s not a trace of this semi-sweet scent.  And besides, who doesn’t love the smell of cinnamon buns anyways?

3.  Moisturizer
If you suffer from dry skin or just like to keep your body hydrated, moisturizer/body lotion is a must have.  And why should each of you buy some when you can just share one large bottle? My favorite is from Target’s up & up brand.  It smells fresh, it does the trick, and the bottle is plenty big for both of us to use and not run out of immediately.

4.  Face Wash
You’ve got to wash your face, it’s a given and a part of the everyday routine so you know you’ve gotta have it.  If you both don’t have specific acne or skin issues, then why add additional clutter by condensing and sharing a cleanser.

I’m a huge advocate of Kiehl’s and have been a loyal user for 10 years now and definitely suggest this brand as a great unisex wash.  I prefer the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser because it’s light enough for your skin, but tough enough to tackle his.  This is another concentrated product where a little bit goes a long way, so you won’t feel like you’re going through product in a flash.  Feel free to indulge in the toner and moisturizer, too.

5.  Scents
If either of you don’t wear a lot of scent or don’t have a signature one, sharing a scent can be a great way to cut down on clutter and cost.  Let’s face it, perfumes and colognes can get pricy and investing in one when you don’t wear it often can be a bit much.  In this case, try finding a scent you can share.  One that has become a signature of mine is Angel for Men (also known as Amen) by Thierry Mugler.  A little sweet, a little musky, and not too heavy.

My dad and mom share it, my bf has used it, it’s a great unisex scent you can both wear.  Another awesome detail about this particular scent is that the bottle is refillable, so you won’t have to worry about wasting bottles and it’s incredibly easy and convenient and also cheaper than buying a new bottle.

Another option, if you’re feeling creative and want something signature to you, head to your local Jo Malone counter (Saks and Nordstrom generally carry this line) and create a scent.   This can be pricey, but it’s also special and if you split the cost it won’t be all that bad.  And don’t worry about smelling the same – that won’t happen.  Each person’s body chemistry will change the scent slightly so that you won’t smell like twins.

There’s no shame in sharing products with your guy.  With so many great options out there you’ll never have to worry that sharing will compromise your beauty needs and style or his masculinity.  This is an incredibly simple and easy way to free up more space in your bathroom and if you invest in good products also a great way to potentially save some money.

Happy co-habitating!
