My 5 Favorite Designers

You can tell a lot by a person based on the designers they favor, whether they’re funky and bold, classic and sleek, edgy and downtown, bohemian and laid-back, ultra-femme, a bit androgynous, and on and on.

Since we’re in the beginning stages of our relationship and still getting to know each other, I think it’s time to move the process along by sharing the designers that I simply adore and reach for time and time again. I’ll also throw in some of the items from each line that I am currently coveting.

More after the jump!

1) Vena Cava

I absolutely can not get enough of Vena Cava, a line by Brooklyn-based designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, and would own every piece of every single collection if I could. Their aesthetic is a bit vintage-inspired with a modern edge and the looks are usually soft and subdued with an overriding fashion-forward flair. They usually stick to a mostly neutral color palette which opens the door for lots of experimentation and fashionable add ons. The silhouettes are always gorgeous and perfectly crafted and shaped with a couture like fit that makes each high-priced piece worth every single penny.

Currently Craving:

Vena Cava Papyrus Dress, $575. This Egyptian-inspired dress is flattering for almost any shape, totally wearable, and is just the right amount of cutting-edge.

Pyramidion T-Shirt, $352. This not -so-basic tee blends edgy-cool with understated sex appeal.

2) Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang has been fashion’s little darling since the debut of his first collection in 2006. He is known for his irreverent aesthetic which blends clean and pure with edgy, grunge inspired styles. As a major fan of the edgy-femme look, I usually do not need to look much further than Alexander Wang for style inspiration of an incredible new piece.

Currently Craving:

Alexander Wang Silk Marble Dress, $495. I love everything about this little number- the print, the shape, and especially, the open back which adds a little sexy surprise to a seemingly simple style.

Alexander Wang Silk Pocket Tank, $325. A no-muss tank that you can layer over now and wear alone later is a year-round must-have.

4) Jenni Kayne

Jenni Kayne is a fashion heavy-hitter who developed a solid fan base with her timeless pieces infused with a playful fashion-forward edge designed to outlast trends and seasons. What I especially love is her ability to infuse even the most basic pieces with an unexpected twist. Her knack for impeccable tailoring and made-for-you fit also doesn’t hurt!

5) Helmut Lang

When it comes to sexy separates and killer cocktail frocks, Helmut Lang is a one stop go-to. The brand has been resurrected under the direction of Nicole and Michael Colovos, with the intent of maintaining the legendary designer’s innovative spirit but giving it a modern edge. The looks are universally polished and chic but it a way that is always effortlessly cool, which speaks to me on so many levels!

Helmut Lang Tuxedo Jumpsuit, $460. I adore the feminine/masculine juxtaposition going on with this totally sexy and utterly wearable piece.
