I’m 23. Just passed my driving test. I live in a city where the living cost is really expensive. I save a lot to pay monthly rent, tax and bills, which is ok that’s life.

Here is the hopelessness and failure part. I was in a job were I was under appreciated, no matter how hard I worked or sacrificed extra hours, nobody cared. I finally left the job and started a new job. It was really hard for me to find a job. I fairly enjoy this new job but it requires hectic travelling and travel cost is a lot higher and cannot be claimed (previous job you can claim all travel expenses). So I thought I’ll get my license and a car, thinking it’d be easy. No, I spent a crap tone of money on driving lessons and now I can’t afford a car. Here in the UK car prices are exponential, due to some car chip shortage.

My bf suggested getting a bicycle. I spend some money on it thinking it’s be an easy solution. No, after a few rides, I don’t feel confident cycling, I feel scared and fell off numerous times. Even cracked my phone falling off my bike.

I just so sad. I just want to be good at cycling and in life in general. How should I deal with failure?

I just feel so sad I can’t cycle properly, or that I afford a car.

Hey, youre 23, Rome wasnt built in a day. You have a home of your own and you passed your driving test. Very commendable. Theres other jobs out there so keep on applying and some of them even have company cars. If you have some time to do a side gig lots of people i know are doing some cleaning work or bar work in their spare time or you can sell items on ebay or do freelance work. Be proud of yourself. You are doing great.

Oh and guess what you can claim for travelling expenses directly from HMRC UK tax office department if you travel to a different place of work to do your job. So get onto them and you can put in a claim if you can confirm your mileage they will pay you a certain amount per mile. Might be 40p but im not sure. x
