He lied about his age

It is utterly ridiculous to claim that all people who lie about their age on profiles are sociopaths. Life is a little more complex than that. I agree for the original poster that this is a flag that he waited so long to tell you. But I empathize with people dating over 40. I am mid-40s and I cannot BEGIN to tell you the ageism I’ve experienced. Like I have worked hard on my self love and seriously feel incredibly desirable and like a freaking catch – but even I’ve been stung by the callousness of people over age gap love. And not just insults, but people interfering in my relationship when I was dating someone younger. It’s insane how hyped up people get about age gaps. Ridiculous if it’s less than 12 years in my opinion.

Anyway – We do not know if this man is callous and unfeeling of the posters feelings, or just really really wanted to date someone he was attracted to (regardless of age, became attracted to her – matched with her, then was just afraid to tell her the further it went along. Or he could be a complete d-bag, only wants to date younger because younger because they are more easily manipulated, he wants a trophy wife, and likes to lie often. We don’t know!! If it were me, I would express my concerns to him about the deception. Discuss that it’s not so much the ‘age’ difference, as it can be a ‘stage’ difference, in these situations. But if you are similarly aligned on what you want in the future – the connection may be worth exploring (while keeping watch and continuing to vet him – as you would any partner as you profess in the relationship).

Hello, I had the same thing happened to me. My ex lied to me about his age as well. Then I found out he lied about other things. If a man can lie about his age then he can lie about other things. I broke it off and found someone else.

I dated a guy who did this. He said he was 45 and he turned out to be 55. The two kids that he said he had turned out to be 3 kids AND multiple grandkids. I stuck it out because I thought we had a connection. An absolute waste of time. I never felt like I could truly trust him and we ended up breaking up. My advice is to cut your losses and try to find someone who will be upfront.
