Tndr hookup kisses forehead good. I unswipe him the next day. Few hours later he texted me if I had a good night/enjoyed the night. I told him I hadn’t called him over for a “one night stand”. A few minutes later he replied we didn’t have to make a one night stand thing and that we could be “really good friends”.

We are in a college town — he a phd student and I the same age but a different level of studies.

Can anyone read into what he was initially wanting and what he is currently wanting at this point in time?

I truthfully really wanted to sleep with him the moment I saw him, but didn’t want to go through a mere hookup again… but now I don’t know how to play the game. My understanding of a forehead kiss from a hookup guy is I don’t care to carry this any further. His reply with being “really” good friends confuses, however. I’d, personally, like this to go somewhere…

Sounds like he wants a casual situation, with hooking up and maybe nice moments but no real commitment, for however long you’ll accept it. Is that what you want? If you do not want to be friends with benefits and instead are looking for an eventual relationship, this isn’t your guy. There’s no game here, he’s offering casual fun. Hanging around in hopes you’ll change his mind is extraordinarily unlikely, and leads to misaligned expectations and getting hurt if you invest.
