My ex and I talk as friends (it’s been a long time since the breakup), yet he still calls me pet names like babe, baby girl, gorgeous, etc, and he compliments me a lot. I don’t think he still has feelings for me because he tells me that he’s talking to other girls but I guess I have no way of knowing for sure. Why would he be doing this? I don’t reciprocate any of his compliments (aside from saying thank you of course) and I don’t call him any pet names.

Many guys like to have their ex GF “available” to them while they are looking for a new partner. He might still have background feelings for you, but if they were strong and genuine, I think you would have felt them.

I think hes just being a bit smooth. Its cheap, talk is cheap dont fall for words. Look only at his actions. X

My ex will still call me pet names like babe, sweetheart or honey. It’s more of a habit at this point. I correct him every time. To me pet names are reserved for very special people. At this stage I feel that it is more degrading than friendly because it’s habit and not genuine.

@Maria Yes, you’re definitely right! At some points I’ve felt as if he still has strong feelings for me but it’s hard to tell over text and it almost seems like he’s very careful about what he says in order to avoid saying something (not sure what that something would be). I try not to get my hopes up over anything. It’s strange.

@caetru Out of habit? That’s so strange, you’d think these guys would catch themselves before they say it and stop themselves, but I guess not? If my ex is doing it just out of habit I definitely want him to cut it out, because I agree with you about those sort of nicknames being reserved for someone who you actually have feelings for.
