I dated a guy for three months until last December. Most of our time together was unbelievably romantic, but in the third month he admitted he suffers from anxiety/depression. When we got very close, he’d pull away. On top of this, he told me he was going to move abroad for a while, as he’s always wanted to try living in another country. I said I didn’t want to do LDR (done it before & the guy cheated). He said he’d come home often so we could see each other but I was still reluctant. In any case, I had enough of his inconsistency with calling and making plans and asked him to change it. He said he was struggling with his depression etc & didn’t want me to feel neglected. So he suggested being ‘friends’!!

Actually I agreed & didn’t expect to hear from him again. But he was soon in contact again & we would see each other occasionally through mutual friends. However in the 1 1/2 months things have changed. We always meet one on one – we go out to dinner, we meet up at our old dating haunts, etc. Twice I’ve felt he wanted to kiss but didn’t go for it. He initiates most of the meet ups and contact now.

So he finally went to another country for a week to look for a job. During that time he contacted me every day and then asked if he could see me the next day after his flight home. We spent most of the day together & when we said goodbye he held on really tight & kissed my cheek, although again I felt he wanted to kiss. Maybe he thinks I’ll reject him.

What gives? Does he really want to be a ‘friend’ because the vibe sure feels romantic again. What should I do?
