Next step???

For NYE I had my phone off since I ended up seeing a movie with my mom around midnight. The guy I’m talking too texted me at 12:01 wishing me a happy new year and I didn’t get it until 1am. I obviously wished him a happy new year right as I got it but he left me on read and no texts since. I shouldn’t text him first right?? I was worried he might’ve been turned off that I replied so late to that text but I was busy! I think I’m overthinking.I really wanna see if he texts me first, especially since I texted last. I was definitely surprised he texted me at 12:01 wishing a happy new year (I was worried he would be out flirting with other girls/had low expectations onto when he would text me). It’s only been a day without contact when we text constantly. Which is completely fine, I just really like him! We both head back to school in a couple of days and I guess I have to wait for him to initiate to see me too, but we have been talking for two months, I don’t know when it’s an appropriate time to bring up where this is going/if it’s even worth it to bring it up?? Before the break he mentioned he isn’t talking to other people, I have met his siblings at a sit down dinner, and when I asked him where his head was early on he said his head was “clear”. Whatever that means. Anyways. I just don’t wanna get my hopes up.
