Top Trends for Spring 2012

Fashion will be light, bright and breezy this month as we gear up for the new season’s hottest trends. Spring typically sees colors shift from the dark tones of winter to soft hues and delicate prints, with March the ideal month to host this transition. As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, March is a pivotal point in any girl’s fashion calendar. To guide you into the season in all the latest styles, take a look at these top trends for spring 2012.

Satin

One of the biggest trends to emerge from the Spring 2012 fashion weeks was satin. An elegant but edgy fabric, satin was seen at Balenciaga, Victoria Beckham, and Miu Miu’s shows late last year as they showcased the styles that would shape fashion this season. This modern and sleek trend works best in a formal setting and you can find a fabulous range of satin plus size evening dresses, skirts and accessories in the Curvissa collection. Make a statement in chic, shiny satin, or follow the fash pack and opt for a demure matte fabric.

Pastels

Pretty pastels are the colour of the season, breathing new life into the colour blocking trend and brightening up our everyday wardrobes. Shades such as soft pink, icy blue and peppermint green fall into fashion favour this month and can be seen on everything from floor length dresses, jeans, and jumpers. To perfect the pastel look, avoid mixing softer tones with dark shades and ensure that the colour closest to your face is flattering on your skin tone. For a look that’s feminine but not too girlie, opt for a delicate fabric such as lace or chiffon, or create an edgy look with a hint of flesh and sharp tailoring.

Peplum

Forget slim-fitting pencil skirts, the peplum is reigning supreme this season with thousands of women opting to boost their body shape with this voluptuous feature. A ruffled detail attached to the waist area of a dress, skirt or blouse, the peplum first trended in the 1940s and again in the 60s and 80s; now sitting amongst some of the most directional trends to emerge this year. The great thing about the peplum is that it will flatter any figure. If you’re blessed with curves, go for a fitted peplum to accentuate your shape, otherwise, a flared peplum can create the illusion of curves on boy shaped bodies.
