A Head Start On Style: Hottest Headbands

For lack of stating the obvious: The headband craze is everywhere, thanks to the success of certain racy, teen television show set on the Upper East Side. But among the giant frou-frou headpieces and bows, bows, bows, are some pretty glam headbands for those of us no longer in high school (think Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller, Mary Kate Olsen).

As a headband lover myself, here are some of my wish list accessories:

Ban.do Halo Headband, $165. Ever since I saw Katrina Bowdon wear this vintage-inspired band of champagne beads, I knew I had to have it. All Austrian crystal wrapped on a silk ribbon, it’s certainly a small luxury…and makes you look angelic.

American Apparel Lamé Shiny Headband
, $6.50. Go Crayola color crazy at American Apparel with their lamé shiny headband. Pick any or all the hues…it works with any outfit for any event, from the gym to the office to a night out at the bar.

Jennifer Ouellette Narrow Braided Headband, $45. For a definite adult look, try out the Jennifer Ouellette braided headband. Narrow and available in a variety of muted colors, this headband screams sophistication. It keeps youth and spunk in your do, but appropriate for the office, upscale dinner or club.

Swarovski Delight Light Colorado Topaz Headband
, $125. For anything glitz, you have to look to Swarovski. This mesh headband has three rows of topaz crystal with gold-plated finishing details. It’s elastic, meaning it’s comfy and versatile – wear it like a hippie across the forehead or traditionally with a few strands whisping by the face.

Jennifer Behr Silk Turban Headwrap
, $142. If you’re looking for edgy and trendy while keeping a put-together look, there’s the Jennifer Behr turban headwrap. Evoking the look strutting down Ralph Lauren runways, this silk headpiece with leather tabs and elastic back evokes old-school exotic glamour to the fullest. It’ll update any everyday outfit.

Cara Accessories Jeweled Skinny Headband
, $32. For holiday, throw in a bit of glamour. Yes, it is a tad Blair Waldorf, but with refrain and class, meaning you can wear it at age 25. The faceted stones atop a subtle bow on this Cara Accessories headband exude celebration without saying “I’m still in third grade.” I bought this myself for my birthday celebration (It’s in December!).

Lauren Conrad’s studed band is gorgeous.
Studs or sparkles- sign me up! Love (love love) this look.
Oh- and @fashionable housewife- I second Sabrina’s bobbi pin comment, they work like magic.

The horseshoe ones can be tricky, it’s really a matter of finding the right shape and style for your head. For the wrap ones, you should try using some bobbi pins to keep them in place, it really helps!

The Fashionable Housewife

I like headbands, but they never stay on my head… the horseshoe shaped ones are always too long, too tight and give me a headache after wearing them for an hour and the wraps and ones that go all the way around always slip off after a while. I can’t seem to make them work for me!

I really love the headband craze and went for it as soon as I saw Lauren Conrad always wearing one. Although, they don’t look all that good on me. I love the Jennifer Behr headwrap!
