My Fall 2011 Fashion Wish List

Every season I like to invest in a few key pieces to update my existing wardrobe and keep things fresh. The Fall 2011 runways were especially refreshing, offering a range of cool new styles that were more innovative than those seen in season’s past, yet still timeless enough to wear for years to come.

After careful consideration, I’ve come up with a list of five essential fall buys that will help me (and most of you!) get more mileage out of the items in my closet.

Bright Pants: The selection of pants hanging in my closet is certainly functional, but there’s nothing too exciting going on in there. This season’s burst of bright pants has definitely inspired me to be a bit more adventurous. I love anything with a bit of a slouch and bright blue is my favorite hue, so this pair is a winner all around!

Alice + Olivia Arthur Pants, $198

Midi Skirt: A midi skirt (one that hits mid-calf) is a timeless piece that makes a great addition to any wardrobe. The Fall 2011 runways featured a wide array of midis, from sleek and sophisticated to edgy and bold, proving that this conservative length can make an impact. This pleated skirt from Tucker will literally look good paired with anything in your closet (basic tanks, embellished tees, chunky knits, sharp blazers, anything!), purchases don’t get much more justifiable than that, agreed?

Tucker Pleated Skirt, $460

Chic Cape: I’ve been a yearning for a cape for a while now and have decided that this will be the season I go for it! There’s something about a cape that’s just so ladylike and chic! It’s also very practical for both fall and winter because you can layer underneath accordingly to suit the temperature. This Ralph Lauren style caught my eye with it’s bohemian-cool, earthy flavor, J’adore.

Lauren Ralph Lauren Shawl Collar Cape, $150

Skirt with a Sexy Slit: As many of you may know, I have an unwavering obsession with maxiskirts. This style has been sweeping the runways for a few seasons now but this time around, it got a sexy makeover with almost up-to-there slits. Dressing sexy isn’t about flashing tons of skin, it’s about flaunting carefully selected regions and there’s nothing sexier than some peek-a-boo leg action!

Helmut Lang Slit Skirt, $370

Everyday Crossbody: I feel bad for a all the gorgeous shoulder bags in my closet (actually, I feel bad for me for all the money I spent on them!) because I’ve discovered that once you go crossbody, you can never go back (they’re just so much more comfortable to wear, you really can’t compete!). I’ve been on the prowl for a great everyday crossbody and this style by 3.1 Phillip Lim meets all my requirements: it’s structured, classic, roomy enough for the essentials and will match with anything. Done and done!

3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Messenger Bag, $750
