The replies have been an interesting and confusing read.
Things have started picking up with an ex again and now I am not sure if I am being lied to.
He flew back into town on a Friday afternoon. His distance went from 700+km to 10km so I knew he had logged in once he was at the airport.
He told me he is really sick and wasn’t leaving his place all weekend – but would maybe see me Sunday.
So Friday night he is apparently in bed, sick, so we were chatting on Whattsapp until 8:30pm – and his distance was 31km (which is where he lives).
I woke up and checked his distance at 8:30am – and it was 6km away and the only thing that he would really be doing 6km away is going to the city on a Friday night!
So I was thinking what?! He went out?!?
I called him and he said he was just about to take a shower.
So he was obviously at home at this point (not in the city)
A few hours later his distance updated to his usual house distance of 31km again and he told me he’s been sleeping all afternoon – I joked and asked if he had a hangover and he said no he’s sick…
Of course my first thought is that he is lying and went out….
But all these comments are making me wonder if I am wrong and there was really a glitch!

…Sat night, he said he is still sick and feels like #### but I came up with a perfectly logical answer for the mysterious change in location last night.
He lives in the middle of nowhere, the matches would be slim to none – so he could have just changed his location to the city to come up with some better searches while he was sick in bed. I’ve done that myself LOL

Lucy – its great that people are answering your questions so freely but why is everyone so obsessed with seeing where people are!? If youre looking so much into someone and something so early on what you going to be like in a relationship??? Get those demons out, realise why your trying to be FBI & realise your paranoia & insecurity. Until then work on yourself and loving yourself then you wont feel the need to look into these things

Distance is surprisingly fairly accurate but only updates if the user actively log-in to use the app. Otherwise it just stays the same as last app opened distance.
So if the miles remain the same it either means he hasn’t used the app or opens it only at the same location. There’s really no point in checking anymore without last active time because it’ll make you go crazy as evidenced from this thread.

hey! I was wondering if anyone knows. I have this tinder match, that suddenly does not show distance between us. well, I can only tell from my side… but there is no more “xxx km away”. other matches do have that info. does this mean he delected the app? does it mean it’s just a bug?

Distance question also: person claims they are in 250 miles away but their mileage keeps changing to 6461 miles away then back to 250 miles. This bounces multiple times a day. Are they manipulating this because they are a scam?

If someone turns off their ‘location gps’ thing, then tinder will show where they were when they last had their location turned on. My friend was on tinder, he flew back to florida and a few days later I saw him on tinder as bein several miles away. When he got on the plane, it froze him as being here and he never turned his location on again for at least a few days. Even if the app is off, it will show where if location is on, or the distance when they were last on. Not sure how accurate when its all turned on, but I’m running into this issue with someone I’m dating too

so this guy im talking to was traveling and he’s back in my city now but it still says he’s super far away does that mean he deleted tinder while he was traveling and that’s why it didn’t update?

Hi .. I met someone on tinder and he told me he is going to anther city but his profile shows 10 km. When I travelled towards his home it shows 3 km n when I reached back my place again it showed 10 km. It happened every time I checked where aa he told me he is about 1000km away does that mean he is lying or his location is stuck n distance change is due to My moving?

It is a different kind of question but I just wondered how this app rounds the distance. For example, in google maps, the distance between his home and mine is 2.1 km but in tinder it shows 3 km. So, after 2.00, it rounds up to 3? Or it rounds up the number bigger than 2.5 and rounds down when smaller than 2.5 for this case?

How does one hide the distance? There is a guy I have been chatting with but his distance is hidden on tinder. What does this mean? Does it mean he is using tinder plus and can hide his distance?

1000 km? and you think it is a software glitch? when someone wants to be in denial, nothing will make them open their eyes. Maybe he lives on the Moon & during Full Moon Phase the zero gravity affects the mileage & location transponders… Thusly negating the negative charged ions to warp factor.

The distance of your location that shows up on profiles is accurate.
If you’re at home with your phone then it will show one distance, if you’re at work, with your phone then it will show that distance.
It is very accurate. I met a guy who works close to my work, when I’m at home, the distance shows further away from each other, when I’m at work the distance shows closer.
He went away on business and it showed he was hundreds of km’s away.so in conclusion, where ever that person is with their phone, the distance is correct.

So here’s my question: Someone on Tinder I have met personally was listed as being a mile from me. I moved to a location about a thousand miles away. The locations for all my other local matches updated accordingly; someone who was ten miles away is now about 1010, etc. This one person, however, is still shown as being a mile away — and given the remoteness of my location, I know with certainty that is not correct. Any ideas what has happened here? I was thinking she might have deleted the app, but I know another person who has done so and whose distance still updates. Is this some trick available to Tinder Plus users, which she is?

I did read it, and this situation is not covered. I have moved, most matches have been updated as you’d expect, and one single contact appears as being exactly the distance from me as when I was a thousand miles away a few days earlier.
