Guy friend (who I have a crush on) keeps texting me first, then never opens reply or leaves me on read without responding. A few days to a week later he will send another message and do the same thing again without answering previous messages. In the past when we have been out/together mutual friends have noticed how he has treated me like I’m a girlfriend with some of the things he has done it how he has spoken to me. How do I deal with this guy, if he isn’t interested why initiate contact?

Sounds like he likes you well enough as a person but isn’t interested in turning it into dating. When I’ve had guys who acted so flirty in person that people thought we were together but never actually made a move, they were usually not the most emotionally available people or had their own issues which is why they are (even still, years later) so inconsistent. Don’t read into it looking for hope, because even if he does like you but acts this way now, he’d be the same way as a boyfriend and it wouldn’t feel good for you at all. Find someone who is sure of what they want, and that what they want is you.

Maybe in the distant future you can be proper friends when/if your crush has faded and expectations are zero. But for now, it’s time to stop engaging with someone like him and let go
