Best Boots for Bad Weather

It’s January, a time to start anew and get used to cruel, nasty, unrelenting weather because it’s here and isn’t going anywhere for a while. I never used to bother with cold-weather boots. Instead, I would brave nasty temperatures in my regular boots which would ultimately ruin the boots and be forced to trudge around with cold feet.

Cold weather boots are obviously highly important- they’ll keep your tootsies warm, will prevent you from slipping and sliding on those snowy days, and are highly durable. While cold weather boots used to be hideous, these days there are tons of really cute and fashionable styles.

Read on for boots that will keep you warm, dry, and stylish come rain, sleet, or snow! [Continue reading...]

Toughen Up Your Look With Lace Up Boots

While all things 80’s inspired are taking over, there are a few styles lingering that summon the spirit of the 90’s grunge era. The style I’m particularly loving is the lace up boot.

Lace-up boots have a certain irreverence to them that makes any look more fashion-forward. They are also incredibly versatile. Wear them with jeans, leggings, miniskirts, or even dresses, from floaty florals to body-con minis.

Use your lace-ups to complete an already edgy look like Lindsay Lohan or a hipster one like Emma Roberts. Toughen up a sweet floral frock with a distressed pair like Rachel Bilson or use them to add a bit of pizazz for a casual daytime look like Diane Kruger.

This style is definitely the one I’m most excited about for Fall. Read on for my top 10 picks! [Continue reading...]

Shade to Crave: Gorgeous Green

Going green in the eco-sense has been a trend for quite some time. Going green in the wardrobe sense is a bit newer to the scene and this shade was a prominent color fixture on this season’s runways. We saw army green at ChloĆ©, mossy green at Louis Vuitton, glitzy green at Balmain, bright green at Lanvin, pale green at Malandrino, pretty green prints at Anna Sui, and many more fantastic interpretations of how to work this shade into your wardrobe.

Greens are more carefree and subdued than some of the other standout colors of this season- like powerhouse pink which is a bit more blatant- and can be tamed for a sleek, minimal style, or taken up a notch for a standout one.

The green trend goes beyond clothing, extending its fabulousness to shoes, bags, accessories, even makeup.

Leighton Meester: Crazed But Not Confused

All wrapped up in Louis Vuitton, Leighton Meester caused quite the buzz at the “Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion” Costume Institue Gala at the Met in NYC.Say what you will about Leighton’s look, you have to admire her bold approach to fashion. I mean, it isn’t east to pull off that many strong statements in one ensemble.

The voluminous shoulders, bold print, contrasting patterns, stand out shoes, tightly curled hair, bright red lips- while this look was a bit crazed, we don’t think Leighton was confused because she sure got everyone talking! All of these elements combined might be a bit too much for everyday-wear, but separately, you have some great trends to try.

Trend To Try: Micro Minis

When I really want to feel sexy, I always reach for leg-baring pieces. I mean does it get much hotter than a leg-baring ensemble with a pair of killer pumps? I think not!

With the 80’s trend slowly trickling in, the micro mini is making a major comeback. We saw fantastic leg-baring styles on the spring runways at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Louis Vuitton, Matthew Williamson, etc., and the leg-centric trend was even stronger at the fall shows.

Rock your mini with a boyfriend blazer for an androgyny chic vibe, with a floaty tunic for sexy yet demure stye; wear it with bare legs and killer pumps now and with opaque tights and a funky pair of booties come fall, anyway you slice it, this wardrobe staple is capable of upping the chic-quotient, not to mention the sex-appeal, of any look.

Trend to Try: Maxi Skirts

Long, flowy maxi dresses have been dominating for a few seasons now so it was inevitable that the maxi skirt would follow! My love of the long skirt was re-ignited at the Vena Cava Spring 2009 show which featured several truly fantastic floor-grazing styles and was enhanced when City star Olivia Palermo stepped out in a stunning maxi style from Jenni Kayne. The maxi skirt is absolutely perfect for a warm spring day where it’s too cold for short or a leg-baring skirt but a little too warm for pants. I especially love the bohemian, hippie-esque vibe of this style.

There are so many ways to interpret this style to make it work for you. You can update it and give it an edge with a sexy tee or cropped vest, you can take it the boho-route and pair with with a floaty top, you can keep it basic with a simple tank or give it a fashion-forward kick with a more embellished style. Just have fun with it and make it work for you!
