How to Wear Now: Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2010 RTW Collection

Diane von Furstenberg was not short of sheen, shine and sparkle at her Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear show last week. As expected, she showcased new vibrant DVF-esque patterns, but used her magic touch to amp up the glam, transforming classic pieces into extravagant, yet fun, looks with eye-catching embellishments. Walk into the room in one of these pieces and heads will turn, guaranteed.

The models embodied glamour and sophistication in what would be simple pieces if Ms. von Furstenberg didn’t adorn it all with puffs of ruffles, chiffon rosettes and trim, velvet and metallic patches, crochet embroidery, and, of course, endless sequins. I’m usually not a fan of floral or paillette appliqué, but DVF does it well, always.

Textured accents stole the show and here’s how you can steal the embellished look before next fall.

Rare Ruched Shoulder Dress, $60.35. The trend for fall seems to be to pick one part of an outfit, and make it spectacular. With this dress, it’s the shoulders.

Forever 21 Antique Studded Blazer, $29.80. Hello, eighties. We all have ordinary blazers. Here’s a fun, vibrant one to liven up your look.

Re Collection Fringe Vest, $248; NOW: $162. Re Collection is one of my favorite brands because the line’s concept is to recycle vintage pieces to create new contemporary looks. How earth-friendly and chic! Plus, we all need some fringe in our wardrobes.

Topshop Chiffon Rose Waistcoat, $59. How does your garden grow? For me, on a vest.

Anthropologie Allamanda Necklace, $42. A flowery vest too much for you? Try this delicate, and simply pretty, necklace to adorn a basic top or shift dress.

Diane von Furstenberg Paulita Skirt, $475. The best way to get DVF’s look is to go straight to the source. The craftsmanship of this ruffled miniskirt is exquisite. How fun!

Anthropologie Rippling Pond Jacket, $148. How many of us have boring coats? Here’s one that is definitely not.

3.1 Phillip Lim Silk Sequin Tuxedo Blazer, $895. A tuxedo jacket is already a statement piece for women. Why not turn it up a notch with full-blown sequins?

Free People Confetti Sequin Mesh Slip Dress, $78. Warning: Sunglasses for spectators needed and mandatory dancing when wearing this dress.

Alice & Olivia for Keds Sequined Classic Champion Shoe, $88 (available this Spring at AliceandOlivia.com and NeimanMarcus.com). You can’t really wear this right now because it’s not out yet, but I had to include this fantastic new shoe—talk about a transformed classic. Now, if only you had these when you were a kid.
