Trend Clash: Print Versus Nautical

It’s a big decision. One that needs to done right too. Forget about sorting your foreign currency in advance. Forget about picking up a phrase book. What’s no doubt running through your mind before you hit sunnier shores is what swimwear you’ll be wearing when you step out onto the beach.

You’ve read the magazines. You’ve seen what the celebs are wearing. You’ve read all the blurb about what styles best suit your shape. Still pulling your hair out in the midst of a bikinis, tankinis, sun hats and sandals? Come on. It’s time to hold it together.

The run up to your holiday should be full of excitement. Not stress. So let us do the work for you and have a run through of two of the biggest swimwear trends for this summer.

Nautical
It’s all about keeping things simple. Maybe a little sophisticated. Like you’re about to step out on deck on the plushest of yachts. Even if you’re not you can still stay on trend with the nautical look.

Think horizontal stripes in classic red or blue for a bikini, or if you’re going for something with a bit more coverage think dark blue or black with a hint of white striped detail. It’s not just about your swimwear though. That might be enough when you rise gracefully from the ocean, but what about when you’re stepping off the beach for a little lunch or enjoying a drink after some beach time?

To really get the nautical look spot on you’ll need to accessorize. Think striped flats, ballerinas, boat shoes or wedges for your feet; and complete the casual, chic style with a mix and match of anchor and starfish jewelery, as well as rope accessories.

Print
While nautical is all about retaining a chic and sophisticated style, this summer if you want to say it loud and colorful opt for a bikini in an exotic print. Think anything from animal, to ikat and tribal ethnic prints.

Why not go for something with low rise bikini bottoms? This is a great way to elongate your body and create a long lithe look. If you’re tanned up, you’ll get the exotic style spot on. Team with some bulky bangles and a flowing tunic top or sarong and you’ll be turning heads whenever you stroll along the sand.

So which one will you go for? Why not both…
