NYFW Runway Review: Vivienne Tam

Designer Vivienne Tam is known for her “China Chic” aesthetic, often drawing inspiration from her Chinese heritage as well as modern fashion for a distinct East-meets-West sensibility. Her collections are often marked by beautiful prints, rich colors, and precise beading and embroidery, and total wearability.

For Spring 2010, Vivienne was heavily inspired by the butterfly. She referenced a famous Chinese opera,”Butterfly Lovers,” in the program, a story about two young lovers kept apart in life who are reincarnated as butterflies and finally together.

The collection drew upon all aspects of the butterfly- the colors, the ability to change, the free-flowing motion, and the fact that they never fly in a straight line, causing them to be very bohemian-like and free. As such, there was a very strong boho, seventies-inspired feel.

Beautiful! Perfect for my taste. I like designs rich in color. I love the third pic the one in blue with orange bag as an accent. So nice to wear.

This is definitely my favorite collection. I love the loose flowy fabric and the feminine accents. Gorgeous!! Great reviews!
