ANM Style Guide: What to Wear to Summer’s Music Festivals

As if there wasn’t already enough to love about summer, the season brings us a TON of awesome music festivals.  Whatever your genre of interest is, there’s something for everyone and with so many options it isn’t a surprise that most of us go to at least one during the summer months.  For those of us going, figuring out what to wear can be an issue – you want to look fab and be comfortable so outfit ideas can be a struggle.  Here are my tips and styles to get you through your summer festival looking and feeling amazing!

ATTIRE
Hipster/electronic music festivals allow you to let out your inner funkiness.  It’s a great time to try something new or push your fashion envelope because this is one time that going a little over the top is not frowned upon.  For these festivals I would say wearing brights – neons are always a good option, but try to keep it to pops of color, not your whole look.  You’ll also want to invest in some interesting tank tops (asymmetrical, cut-out, crop).  Think 80’s, early 90’s when you’re packing/getting dressed – this should steer you in the right direction of fab attire.  Jumpuits are another great option.  Here’s my suggestion:

Nasty Gal Just Good Friends Romper, $160.

For folk/country festivals, you’ll want to keep it more casual and classic.  Think dark denim shorts, plain tank tops, denim tops, flowy sundresses – these will keep you looking fab and festive.  Maxi dresses are also another great option – they’re easy to wear, will keep you comfortable, and you’ll look super on trend.  Here’s a maxi option:
Backstage Majorca Dress, $209

ACCESSORIES: I would definitely suggest flat shoes.  Flat shoes are going to allow your feet to be comfortable all day – remember, you’re going to be on your feet for long periods of time!  I would suggest something that is closed toed, especially for hipster/electronic festivals because there’s a lot of crazy dancing going on – this will prevent any unwanted broken/bruised limbs.  If you’re afraid you’re going to get too hot, check to see if someone in your group is bring a backpack and bring a pair of flip flops just in case.  If you don’t wear them they’re light and don’t take up space.  If you end up changing into them, offer to carry the bag for awhile.

Hipster/Electronic:

Sam Edelman Alexander Sneaker, $100

TopShop Havana Metallic T-Bar Sandals, $32.

Folk/Country:

ASOS Agatha Chelsae Ankle Boots, $53.

Steve Madden Daffy Sandals, $41.

BAGS:  Definitely take a side sling/messenger bag or fanny pack.  This way you won’t be fussing with your purse all day and you won’t happen to just leave it somewhere.  Try these options:

Hipster/Electronic: Gucci Canvas Belt Bag, $465.

*Tip* Try Ebay-ing or checking out Etsy for fanny packs – this is an easy way to find both designer and cheap ones that look fab.

Folk/Country: J Crew Wixon Purse, $198 (opt for the mint version if you want to add more color to your look)

And my biggest tip – remember to stay hydrated!  You’ll be in the sun and most likely drinking all day so remember to get some water in you every now and then!

If you’re heading to a festival this summer, have a kick ass time!

Xoxo,
