ANM Must-Have: Resort Pieces For Now And Later

Right around this time of the season is when vacations are on the agenda, last minute warm weather getaways are booked, and thoughts of basking in the sun takes your mind far away from the bitter cold you’re living in now.  And nothing is more fun than shopping for new items to wear on this vaca because that means putting away those bulky winter layers and trading up for flowy, lightweight pieces in fun, bold prints and colors.

One downfall – buying these pieces and not being able to wear them until the weather changes.  But don’t fret – you can totally rock these looks when you step back into reality and work them well into your current cold weather wardrobe.

Here are 10 resort pieces to buy now, wear on the beach, and back at home:

The Dress: Young, Fabulous & Broke Isla Maxi,$220. Three words a la Theresa Guidice – LOVE LOVE LOVE.  It’s vibrant, it has a cut out, a low back, and tye-dye print.  I’m sold.  This bold pop of color will definitely have you forgetting about the winter cold on your warm holiday and it’s a great way to stay cool and chic on the beach.  And the best part is that you can totally rock this now at home too!  Pair with a denim or leather jacket, layer under a slouchy cardigan or thick sweater, or rock with a white tuxedo blazer.  Throw on some platform booties in place of those vaca flip flops and your ready to take on the snow just as fashionably as you are the sand.

The Sunnies: Prada Cat Eye Acetate Sunglasses, $365. Something about these totally screams VACATION to me.  Can’t you just picture yourself poolside drinking a mojito soaking up the sun in these?  Thought so.  The pink frame with the green accents totally has me thinking resort and warm weather.  And the best part?  You guess it – you can rock these at home to add some spring flare to any look.  Try pairing with some leather to create a fun contrast.

The Top:
LULUS Exclusive Landslide Off-The-Shoulder Top, $32. Easy and breezy – just what you want and need on your winter holiday.  This top is super versatile – great for the day doing some sightseeing (although watch out for those tan lines) and perfect for night.  Pair with everything from pants and shorts, prints and colors, and if you want to get super boho-chic pair with a pretty flowing maxi.  Just make sure that if the bottom is just as flowy as the top to add some shape with a belt.  And when you get off the plane after your warm get-away, you can still rock this for a night out on the town with the girls or on a sexy date night with your significant other.

The Pant: Victoria’s Secret Drawstring Pant, $72.50.. These are definitely on my MUST HAVE list.  Unfortunately, this year I’m not taking a winter vaca, but that won’t stop me from purchasing these super fab pants.  What I love about these is the print – it’s the right amount of tropical without being overdone and I love the detail of the pinkish-red side trim.  Pair these with your favorite bikini top, t-shirt or racer back tank and know that when you get home you’ll will look amazing in these paired with a great tailored button down and navy blazer topped with loads of hardware, some pointed-toe stilettos or open-toe booties and your favorite tote.

The Tote: Mod Cloth Mix and Map Tote, $127.99. So this tote gets a little literal.  So what.  Maps, travel – they go together, which is why this tote will be a great addition to your beach wardrobe.  The leather handles add a touch of fancy to this otherwise basic canvas tote and the shoulder strap makes it easy to lug all of your necessities around when trekking the town.  This tote will make a great addition to your wardrobe at home, too.  Use to carry work or gym essentials, take this with you to your weekend trip to the market – you’ll definitely find a way to incorporate it.

The Shoe: Jeffrey Campbell Soiree, $129.95. Can’t leave for a getaway without a rockin’ pair of new shoes and if you’re going to buy anything I say definitely buy these.  The lucite heel is totally on trend, the green ombre fading and blue suede just screams to be worn on an island somewhere and the open-toe gives those little guys some time to breathe.  You’ll definitely get plenty of use out of these on your vacation, but you’ll get just as much use at home and that includes now.  On dry days, just layer these over some tights or printed socks for some added punch to your cold weather looks.

The Sweater: Vix Off White Stripe Sweater, $142. For those chilly nights or evening boat rides, it’s always best to bring at least one warmer piece on a winter warm weather trip.  This striped sweater is perfectly nautical and is a great basic that will match with just about anything in your suitcase, helping you to pack light.  This can easily be thrown on over anything and will work perfectly as a cold weather layer for when you get home.  Definitely a staple piece you’ll have in your closet well into spring.

The Scarf: Urban Outfitters Python Scarf, $29: Rock an exotic print in your new exotic locale.  Scarves are great for any environment and any season, so use this accessory to add a little spice to your getaway looks.  Also perfect for back home.  A scarf can always be added to any look so you’ll have no problem getting plenty of use out of this piece.

The Bikini: Eoldie Brocade Bikini, $125. Brocade is a big trend for winter, so why not take a little piece of the season with you when basking in the sun.  This bikini will definitely add some glamour to your tanning sessions and the top will look great paired with shorts or a maxi when walking around.  As for wearing back home, this can be a little tricky, but try throwing under a sheer dress or blouse for some punch and a hint of metallic print underneath.  You can also throw a low buttoned, tucked in button-up over it for a sexy, but not too sexy, take on this look.

The Short: Express Belted Print Stretch Cotton Shorts, $59.90. Fun, printed shorts perfect for running around on vaca.  Great for everything from wearing around on the beach, grabbing some food and drinks at the bar, sightseeing.  Pair with a neutral top, try mixing with color, or even pairing with another print.  And yes, you CAN rock these when you get back home, too.  I’m not one for shorts over tights, but if that’s your thing than go for it!  You can also try pairing with some over-the-knee boots to minimize the amount of skin exposed to the cold.  It’s totally do-able and you’ll totally finding yourself rocking this look more than you think.

There are SO many awesome resort and spring pieces out there right now to snatch up before your holiday that will still be versatile at home right now.  It’s fun to find creative ways to incorporate warm weather gear into your cold weather wardrobe and it will definitely help you beat the winter blues.  So ladies, if you’re prepping for a fabulous trip have fun shopping your looks and remember to drink a daiquiri for me!

xoxo,

These are all definitely necessary for a fun and fashionable summer! We especially love the long maxi cover up – its red tones and relaxed style are so romantic! Another great maxi cover up is the Rincon Sands Cabana Maxi by Leilani. With warm-color hues and floor-skimming lengths, this cover up is sure to turn heads.
