Fall Sweater Alternatives post image

Fall Sweater Alternatives

Fall is in the air and it makes me happy that I can un-store my favorite sweaters and invest in some new ones.  But what I’m even more excited for are the alternatives to sweaters that are so amazing this season.  I’m talking capes and ponchos that you don’t want to pass up!

What’s great about these alternatives is that it allows you to play up your wardrobe a bit and add something unexpected.  So here are my five must haves for fall’s sweater alternatives:

Rachel Zoe ‘Nina’ Merino Wool Sweater Cape, $395. Incredibly chic and super comfy looking, this cape is a definitely must for fall.  Perfect for lounging around at home, running errands, a day at the office, or a night on the town.  Style with another black shirt under, or try wearing over a striped, printed or colored top for a fun pop of color, or for night why not pair over a sheer shirt for just a tiny hint of skin and loaded up with tons of hardware.  This is a piece you will absolutely be wearing well into winter.

BCBG Marilyn Cape, $288. I LOVE this because it’s kind of got a blazer feel to it while still being a cape.  Definitely a more dressed up version than the RZ one, but still as versatile.  Pair over a sleek button down and trousers or a skirt for work, wear with jeans, a tee, and motorcycle boots for a night out, or pair over a pretty dress for weddings and formal holiday events.

Sanctuary Rockin Natalie Vest, $49.97 (on sale). Fur (faux or real) vests are a great alternative to a sweater.  Pile them over layers or cardigans or sweaters, throw over a blazer or leather jacket, over a long sleeved sweater dress or maxi, or pair over another vest (wool, tweed, leather…you get the picture).  Definitely a way to add some spunk to your look and it’s easy to throw on over anything.

Eternal Child Cape Sweater Tunic, $398. This is definitely going on my fall shopping wish list.  It’s almost a sweater, almost a cape, almost a tunic – but the combination here is totally working.  I’m absolutely digging the cape-style top, I love the last minute sweater-styled armholes, and I really love the length because it lets you wear it so many different ways.  Pair over skinny jeans, over leggings or tights, or belt and wear as a dress – the possibilities are endless.

Free People Hooded Poncho, $68. I love ponchos and this one is no exception.  Incredibly cozy and comfortable to wear while keeping you looking perfectly fab and boho chic.  I love to throw these over my favorite pair of boyfriend jeans and a soft long sleeved sweater, but it can just as easily go over a pair of leather pants or a feminine, flirty blouse.  Try belting it, or let it hang loosely – either way it creates an easy look proportion that you’ll love.

So there you have it – 5 amazing alternatives to add to your sweater collection.  You’ll appreciate this change in sweater pace with this fun and interesting silhouettes and you’ll find that they’ll be in heavy rotation this season.

Xoxo,

I love these alternatives! I reside in Scottsdale, AZ…so even though it may get alot cooler in the winter, most days do not warrant a full sweater or coat! This options are the perfect balance! Thanks for the post!
