5 Blazers Every Woman Should Invest In

I was going through my closet just the other day and couldn’t get over how many blazers I’ve collected over the years, and with the number I’m pushing you can probably officially call me a junky. But before you go judging, let me explain that you can never have too many blazers. You can narrow it down though and once I really started thinking about it, I realized that there are five blazers that every woman should invest in.

These five blazers will make sure you get through every event, every date, every night out with friends, everyday at work – whatever the occasion, you’ll look fabulous doing it.  Here are my top five picks:

Classic Black
You can never go wrong with a classic black, wool blazer.  If you’re not a big blazer wearer and are only going to invest in one, then this is the one I would suggest.  A black blazer is sophistication at its best, but it can be easily swayed to get a little edgy.  You can pair this with denim, shorts, skirts, dresses, t-shirts, button ups – you name it, it works.  Black is the easiest to work into your wardrobe and a classic cut will always be stylish, so investing a little more in a great blazer will be well worth it.

My Pick: Banana Republic Black Lightweight Wool Blazer, $198.

Crisp White
I think everyone should invest in a great white blazer.  It doesn’t have to be a tuxedo style – it can be boyfriend fit, crop, jacket style – whatever you choose. White blazers instantly brighten and clean up a look and can be worn with anything.  Afraid it’s going to get chilly mid-way through an evening patio dinner, running out the door in a black maxi or jumpsuit, running errands in denim, a tee, and flip flops?  A white blazer over any of these looks will make you look crisp and pulled together in a heart beat.

My Pick: BCBGMaxAzria Lawson Boyfriend Tux Jacket, $248

The Bold Blazer

A bold colored blazer is a great way to add a pop of color to your look while still looking classic.  Definitely a more playful blazer, you’ll find yourself pairing with colored trousers or skirts for work and with loads of hardware (my term for jewelry) and funky shoes.  Wearing a blazer with color will add to your mood (believe me, it will!) and you’ll find yourself trusting it on days or nights when you need a boost for a bit of flare. (Quick tip – this color is super hot for fall so buy now, wear now & wear later.)

My Pick: Ark & Co. Pop Blazer, $59

The Evening Blazer
Investing in a “going out” blazer is a great idea, mainly because it will come in handy when you’re getting ready to go out.  This is your blazer that doesn’t really see the light of day, just the light of the dance floor.  This blazer should be bolder, sexier, louder – you want it to attract attention and get you noticed.  Try sequins, grommets, spikes, beads, velvet – nothing is off limits when you’re looking for this blazer.

My Pick: Zara Washed-Out Silk Velvet Blazer, $169

The Statement-Blazer
Having a printed or unconventional blazer is always a fun option too.  Something with a sheer back or sleeves, one with a loud print, vintage finds – anything that isn’t your typical blazer or something with a twist will always come in handy.  Perfect for those days when you’re feeling funky, want a pick me up, or have no idea what to wear.  Pair this blazer with even the simplest of t-shirts and jeans and instantly feel fabulous and ready to tackle your day or night.  This will definitely be a blazer you won’t wear all the time, but you’ll turn to when you need it the most.

My Pick: Anthropologue Botanical Blazer, $198

Blazers are a great investment because they carry from season to season, so whatever styles, colors or prints you decide on you’ll look fab in it always.  I will say that it’s a must to make sure you find blazers that fit well and if not have them tailored – trust me, it makes a huge difference – but other than that, there are no rules.  Rock what you feel comfortable in and you’ll be sure to set the room ablaze(r)!

Hi,
I only have 2 blazers and been wearing the same two every week, with different top underneath. Is that acceptable or an embarrassment in other’s point of view (similiar to wearing the same shirt every other day)?

What’s the minimum amount of blazer we should rotate with?
How often can we wear the same blazer in a week?

loved this… I am planning to invest in a corporate-look blazer soon and was wondering what color to get… after this I’m thinking black :))

I agree with this. Like some clothing, blazers are equally important as well to complete an outfit!
