Having great hair is a must on a date and turning up with a cute fresh style is one of the wagers for a successful evening. It boosts our confidence and makes us feel sexy and desirable. Summer is a good time to go for a hair change as the rising temperatures affect hair’s feel and appearance. If you hesitate to make dramatic alterations, just varying your color a bit or even just modifying slightly a favorite style can make a difference. The idea is to project freshness.
Noted San Francisco hair stylist Mia shared 3three simple ways to give your hair a crisp, modernized look this spring without going dramatic and some ideas for new hair looks. And we’ve thrown in some other easy ways to upgrade your look this season.
Play with your Part: Mia suggests parting your hair a new way to switch things up in a flash. Many celebrities this award season have been sporting deep side parts, with hair falling onto one shoulder. Changing or even moving your part over slightly, while adding fresh highlights to darker roots, can give an easy renewed look for spring.
Lighten Up: It’s time to shake off the dark roots of last year’s popular Ombre coloring style and bring life back to your hair. Mixing rich, vibrant, color tones are the latest color trend. Add in subtle, face-framing highlights, while mixing two and three tones within the body of the hair. You will create softer transitions between darker winter hair color and lighter locks, while giving your hair more dimension and luster for spring.
Try a Chignon: Seen on celebrities and women around the globe, a top knot is the hottest ‘do. Here’s how to get the look: On air-dried hair, apply a thickening spray from root to end. Next, flip head over and using a paddle brush, pull hair into a high ponytail, securing with a rubber band. Twist hair into a bun, securing with bobby pins to keep hair in place. The key to this look is making sure there are no fly aways, so smooth hair from the nape of the neck up and around the hairline by spraying a brush with a strong hold hairspray and brushing hair into place.
Bangs without the Commitment: Bangs make a great addition to a top knot bun, or any other hairstyle really. For girls who love the look but don’t want to make the chop, clip on bangs are a must. I recommend Hairdo by HairUWear Clip-In Bangs ($29). The bangs are already styled—just clip them in and go for an instant hair transformation.
Bombshell Hair: If your hair is long, you may find inspiration in “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara’s new bombshell look. This is an easy look to recreate and is a perfect date-night look!
Start by washing hair with a shine-enhancing toning shampoo and conditioner that keeps blonde hair brilliant and healthy – we recommend UNITE Blonda Shampoo ($26.25) and Conditioner ($28.75). While hair is damp, apply UNITE 7 Seconds Conditioner from roots to ends and comb through. Apply a quarter size amount of Blow & Set Lotion and work through from root to ends. Use a round brush and blow dry hair. Once hair is dry, section off the hair framing your face and create pin curls, securing with a hair clip. After hair has been curled, release the pin curls and sprinkle a light amount of Expanda Dust ($26.25) throughout to maximize the volume.
Color Extensions: Pinks, blues, and greens are popular hair shades these days, as we’ve seen on countless celebs. It is not to everyone’s taste, but if you like the idea of adding a pop of color to your locks in a subtle way, try easy to-use POP by HairUWear Clip-In Color Strips ($8 each)
For on the Go Touch-Ups: One invaluable item I like to keep in my purse when I go out is this new 410 mini-Tamer Titanium Flat Iron ($22), awesome for quick touch ups during dinner or after a little tussling up on the dance floor or the back of the cab. It is also great to reach and smooth the smallest of sections around the face, ears and neck.
Hair Mascara Another tool I keep in my purse is the new GenerationKlean Hair Mascara ($7.99). It is great to paint subtle gold highlights around your face or to cover sprouting grey hairs. Comes in brown, honey, wheat blond, red or black. Just be careful not to get all your mascaras mixed up in your purse!
The idea on a date is to look fresh and classy with a bit of unusual flavor, and exotism. Never déjà vu! Every season try adding some new crisp-ness to your hair whether by changing your parting side, refreshing your color, adding highlights, curls, color extensions or going for the popular chignon.
