Backstage Beauty: Tibi

With the help of famed hairstylist Kevin Ryan, makeup artist Bobbi Brown, and Dashing Diva’s Pattie Yankee, the Tibi Spring 2010 runway definitely came alive, giving the colorful collection the attention it deserved. From the funky hair to the bright eye, check out what I found as I went backstage before the vibrant show.

HAIR
Using brightly colored pieces of fabric left over from the dresses in the spring collection, Ryan created this eco-friendly (the fabric was all recycled ) tribal-esque bun that complimented the clothing’s simple structure perfectly. Giving it a macrame feel, Ryan first dried the hair with a rough texture, pulled it back using a clear elastic on the end, folded the hair back on itself, and then with the help of a pair of forceps, began weaving in the bits of fabric, binding the bun, giving it a tough feel. To help achieve the rough texture, Ryan used Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray ($27.99) as well as Kiehl’s Silk Groom ($17.50) at the end to give the look a bit of a moistness.

MAKEUP
Inspired by the collection’s bright prints and colorful palette, Brown’s biggest challenge was to create a bold yet pretty look. Featuring a vibrant electric pink eye with hints of yellow and green, she kept the rest of the face looking fresh and young with a little peach on the cheeks, and a nude lip.

Brown started the look by using Hydrating Face Cream ($50) and Hydrating Eye Cream ($45) to moisturize the face and eyes. Finishing off the face, Brown’s innovative Foundation Stick ($40) was applied along with the Creamy Concealer ($22) and Corrector ($22) to get that natural looking coverage. She used a bright yellow eye shadow under the brow with a bright pink coral on the lid, (both from the Bobbi Brights Palette) as well as Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($21) in black. Bright green liner was applied along the bottom lash line (also from the Bobbi Brights Palette) and to top the bold eye off, multiple layers of Extreme Party Mascara ($22, look for the launch of this product in October!) were used on both the top and bottom lashes. The Coral Pot Rouge ($22, spring ’10) was placed high on the cheek bone, the brows were softly defined, and the lips were kept nude.

To make this runway look a bit more wearable try a softer pink eye shadow like Baby Pink ($20) on the eyes and Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($21) in Black Ink or Black Plum Ink.

NAILS
Complimenting the overall “pretty” look, Yankee used the color “Social Climbing” ($8) on the nails. This pinkish-nude shade was specifically used because it is perfect for any skin tone.
